Well said, phidelt.

Like I said before, I think it's a much more realistic idea to approach a local rag with the idea of inserting a sports section and what not... and, to speak frankly, I think the response of "If certain publications wish to contact us, we're willing to listen" is not really a response I would want from someone who is looking to find investors

phidelt649: I will need some help with layout. I'll be in touch.

We're talking 32 pages right now with about 50% advertising.

As for the content, we're talking with folks that are professional; guys like Bill Rosinski and Brett Borden are on our radar. I won't turn away resumes, however. If you want to send one, be my guest.

I've got a stable of printers already, but I won't turn down quotes, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

We're very much in the beginning stages right now and are looking at several different avenues as far as digital delivery, printing, etc. I like the idea of being an insert in an already existing publication, however I've already spoken to two larger companies that operate newspapers in NC and SC and they aren't interested. There aren't many others left.

I've worked at a startup magazine before; one that so far has done pretty well and is just now switching from volunteer staff to salaried employees.

A couple thoughts.

1. Start out quarterly

2. Up you % of advertising

3. Once you publish a few issues and can present a hardcopy try again to get distributed in an existing publication

4. Your potential staff writers look great

5. Scratch some backs. We got an interview with Under Armour's CEO (a hell of a get, let me tell you) in exchange for a full page ad

it would be cool BUT...

the problem with printed media is that ALL the information in it is old by the time it comes out

think about it... you are asking people who check the internet several times daily (sometimes hourly) for new info on the Panthers... if you think you can keep info secret until its printed I'd really like to see that accomplished b/c no other printed media outlet can accomplish that

Not necessarily.

News, yes, but there is content that isn't time sensitive. Our Dan Morgan article, for example, wasn't breaking news. Feature stories and interviews aren't all that time sensitive.
