Bucky Brooks gives the Panthers an A-

On their 2014 Draft

Critics will suggest that the Panthers' sub-.500 record is indicative of a disappointing season, but the team claimed the NFC South title and won a playoff game -- thanks in no small part to the efforts of a superb 2014 class. The team got a 1,000-yard season from Kelvin Benjamin, who provided the NFL with a glimpse of his potential dominance as a WR1. Trai Turner shored up the interior of the offensive line and paved the way for Jonathan Stewart to make an impact in key moments. The defense started to flex its muscles when Tre Boston and Bene' Benwikere were inserted into the secondary down the stretch. Benwikere in particular played exceptionally well over the final month of the season, blanketing premier receivers in one-on-one coverage. With Carolina also receiving solid contributions from an undrafted free agent (receiver Philly Brown), there is a lot to like about the Panthers' rookie class.

Brooks was the only one that had Benwikere mocked to us last year. It was like his mock 7.0 or something, but he had him on the Panthers.

I respect these experts' opinions about personnel more than those of many (not necessarily in any order):

1. Greg Cosell

2. Gil Brandt

3. Mike Mayock

4. Bucky Brooks

Meh...still think the team had a ton to improve on and I'm sorry, back to back champs really doesn't mean much, had we lost that last ATL game I don't think I'd feel any different, we won the division because the division sucked. I just can't be happy with 7-9 winning the division or not we should have been better and we'll need to be better.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
