Off Season Projects

Well it's the off season. Anyone have any projects going on? Car, art, home, or even work?

I bought a 1990 Miata last summer with the goal of getting 300hp to the ground. In a 2100lbs car it may be more than I need. The motor is surprisingly stronger than I thought it would be so I'm starting with the suspension after I replace the top. Finding a hardtop for it has been tough because the aftermarket ones haven't been great and the oem is expensive thanks to Spec Miata requiring them to race.

May remove rails from the deck and add a lower level with a pergola. I would love to add those cool modern sheds in the back and build a deck onto it and it be a man cave/spare bedroom /office. Grill and fire pit there as well. Ahh so little time and so little extra money.

Just put a "border" on the mirror in the master bath last night for the wife, looks really good.

Next is car and boat shopping.

Then adding a stamped concrete pad to the back yard for a new smoker, fire pit, and all my grills.

That should get me to warmer weather.

300hp in a Miata will be fun, but probably a little overkill.  beef up the suspension and that would be all the fun i'd need, if I still fit in Miata's.  haven't since I was about 14 lol

i'll be getting my car ready to sell in the spring so that I can buy a truck or SUV with 4wd.  my Honda fit was the family (me, wife and two dogs) car until my wife's acura rsx decided to commit suicide and roll down our driveway... so she bought a Subaru outback and now i'm getting something cheap to have a little fun with.  looking for an older truck, but currently leaning toward the old land rovers/range rovers/land cruisers

I live on an acreage...so football season is my offseason of real work!!!  Always something to do on the acreage...and I fricken love it.  Cutting the lawn...cutting down  trees...bought a new wood chipper last fall so I'm going to have all sorts of fun killing poo when the snow is gone.

other than that...few minor projects on the Challenger so that she's all ready to eat jap scrap like Miatas come spring time!

Now Hawk...remember what did the judge told you about the ol' "Hookers in the Woodchipper" game.

Pretty sure it was "stop".

I'm pretty sure his words were...."I don't want to see you do this ever again"

hence the silencer and the infrared lights.

If I knew anything about fixing up old vehicles I'd love to find an old Scout to work on.post-332-142446710821_thumb.jpg

    • I think you misunderstand what I mean by "significantly better than Bryce Young." That gets you entry into the top 30 NFL starting QB's. Not sure if you have seen that group recently, but it's not a strong one the further down that list you go. Murray is a Tier 3 if not Tier 4 QB in my book.
    • Here is where you are… for purely the sake of arguing with me you are willing to suggest the 2025 Saints RBs might not be better than the 2025 Panthers RBs lol Saints have the 28th ranked rush attack.  We are top 10.   The Saints haven’t had a 100 yard rusher the entire season.  We have seen franchise best performances in a franchise known for running the rock. and see above for what our OL is also clearly better than the Saints.  Hell, Canales being forced into some mashups has often made it even stronger at times
    • I am not saying there isn't truth to that but the economics and reality of the NFL are producing that. It's very hard to justify taking a guy in the 1st round, shelving him for years, having to make a contract extension and THEN hoping it all turns out okay. Not to mention, imagine that scenario after what we traded for Bryce. One thing is for certain, the QB desperation has led to bad 1st round QB picks for 15+ years now. That ain't new.  I think we need to decide on Bryce's future this offseason and we will have to. In my eyes, picking up the 5th year option is the "all-in" move for a two year period. That means you are committed to him in the medium term. Not the move I would personally make.  No matter what the decision is, I have been vocal about needing to bring in multiple QB's to improve that QB room for when Bryce falters again. How about just overall improving your team depth so that when it doesn't pan out, you at least have options on the roster? I don't feel like that is too much to ask and it's a valid bet hedge.
