Panthers met with Miami OT Ereck Flowers

on the post-combine Big Board by Joel Klatt of FOX Sports, he has Flowers as his #13 overall prospect. The OTs:

#13 Ereck Flowers 1 - "I don't see him as a LT in the NFL, as he will likely have to play guard early in his career before a transition to RT. ... once he works on technique in pass protection, he will be a quality RT for a long time."

#16 Cameron Erving 2 - "moved from LT to C last season for the Seminoles. However, he didn't just move, he dominated at both positions as the best blocker in the ACC each of the last two seasons. Oh, by the way, he was originally a DT at FSU, so he likely will succeed regardless of where his next team puts him"

#17 Brandon Scherff 3 - "some serious questions have risen about his ability to play tackle"

#19 La'el Collins 4 - "would fit well at guard, as he is still too raw..on the outside as a pass protector...[he looked] average...he didn't excel anywhere...could have a long career on the right side [but] he [will] likely..never [be a] great player"

#29 Andrus Peat 5 - "has all of the things that you want from an OT at the next level"

#36 D.J. Humphries 6

#46 Cedric Ogbuehi 7

#49 TJ Clemmings 8

note sold on collins as a LT. doesn't look quite as fluid as some of the other guys.

I can understand some apprehension about his pass protection at LT. But I do think his technique can be coached up. To me, Collins is a can't miss prospect in that even if he isn't the greatest pass blocker at LT, he will undoubtedly succeed on the line somewhere. He could be a dominant guard or a mauler at RT at the very least. His run blocking is elite.

I do think he can play LT though. He was very impressive against Dante Fowler for example.

I look for fluidity, lateral quickness, center of balance, coordination, and frame. You cant really improve those things. You can teach technique and improve your strength. Aggressiveness can also be improved.

I want both my LT and RT to have the above. You need good pass pro and run blk from both sides imo.

NFL.com yesterday:

Ereck Flowers of Miami a possible fit for Carolina Panthers

...

On Thursday night's "Path to the Draft" show on NFL Network, NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah described the Panthers ' offensive tackle situation as "awful," and he said picking Miami (Fla.) tackle Ereck Flowers with the 25th overall pick would be a good move. Coincidentally, Jeremiah has Flowers as his No. 25 overall prospect.

Jeremiah called Flowers (6-foot-6 1/4, 329 pounds) "a big, physical, dominating run blocker." Jeremiah said Flowers "needs to get a little bit better, technique-wise, in pass protection."

...

"He will be an upgrade at right tackle" for the Panthers , Jeremiah said. "To be honest with you, he's better than anything they got at left tackle, too."

Fellow analyst Mike Mayock has said he sees Flowers -- who is Mayock's No. 4 tackle -- as a future Pro Bowl player on the right side."

Football IQ is a bigger deal for OL than a lot of folks realize.

Did the guy really boast about his football IQ? Oh boy, the last thing we need is an OL know it all, he should just assume he knows very little and show excitement about learning his duties and role as a Panther.

But hey...I've tooted my own horn a time or 20 too, but I've never been faced with earning a multi-million $ gig, so I'm not sure what I'd say with so much on the line.

I think I'll take it as confidence. But I'm biased as a Hurricane myself. And if we draft him I'd be very happy. And if we don't then he was a cocky basterd. ;)

Dormer U players are never shy when discussing their college, that's for sure. Big family of professional Pro players and highly represented in the HOF as well.
