Winners and Losers from Baltimore game

Winners

Mike Goodson: Workhorse tonight. Some great running, some great pass blocking...at times, a SICK catch....continues to impress. Decent on kickoff returns as well.

Steve Smith: Great to see him back. He looks like Superman as usual.

Tyler Brayton: Had some nice pressure at times.

Everette Brown: Ditto. Plus he did more than just spin like a top.

Kenny Moore: Looks like not only will he make the team, he's going to be the slot receiver. Good for him, he looks uber-comfortable on the field.

CJ Wilson: Had some solid coverage at times.

Losers

Chris Gamble: Remember that game where Fred Smoot was destroyed by #89? Gamble looked like Smoot tonight, although Flacco had an eternity to throw.

Ryne Robinson: I don't think he played tonight even though he's not injured as far as I know. He's gone.

Dwayne Jarrett: Leapfrogged by Moore. Ouch.

Quinton Teal: Didn't look good at all. Blown coverages and tackles.

Landon Johnson: Looked slow and very bad.

Chris Harris: Added to the misery of the secondary with some more blown coverages and missed tackles.

Damione Lewis: No pressure generated at all.

=======================================

Also, Dan Connor was okay, but didn't look nearly as good as a starter. It was good to see Peppers at least show up on a few plays as well and I think Nikki Hayden Panettiere continues to improve where she's not such a game-blowing liability. She's still bad, but at least you can think about letting her see the field during the regular season at times now.

How about giving the offensive line some love? I thought they gave Jake plenty of time and blocked well enough for Goodson to make some plays. This was a very good Baltimore defense and I think the offense played pretty well.

With that said the biggest loser is the defense. They can't tackle, they don't generate much pressure with the front four, they don't cause turnovers (1st team defense has yet to get a turnover), and they are VERY poorly coached. Meeks is a tool and this should be his only season with the panthers, I think Fox should start calling the plays or something, he is terrible. And I'm glad Gamble thinks he should shadow the best receiver because he got absolutely abused tonight. They were picking on our BEST defensive back and made him look silly. The lack of pass rush didn't help matters but geez. Oh and teams will throw to the backs over the middle ALL year long if we continue to let them run around completely uncovered. I don't care that it is preseason, we look like a bottom 5 defense right now, if we play like this we won't win 8 games and I promise DeAngelo won't gain more than 900 yards because we will be behind in every game.

Jake was the reason we couldn't convert any third downs. He did nothing of note. We scored a total of 3 points and converted a total of 0 third downs with him in there.

Jake went 11-16 for 180 yards. If you think he was the reason we lost then you're hopelessly biased.

    • Yeah not taking that Burns trade was infinitely stupid. We seem to be finally righting the ship but, imo, our biggest issue since Tepper bought the team has been coaches and management having a poor understanding of where our own roster is at. Starting with that idiot Rhule drinking his own kool-aid and thinking he was going to come and take the NFL by storm with Teddy freaking Bridgewater. Could have just kept Cam on the last year of his contract and gone from there but noooo that fat slob had to feel like he was the big man on campus. First round wizard Marty Hurney who, for whatever his faults, has a freaking HOF track record with first round picks, wants to trade up for Hebert but fat fug Rhule says no. Then we kept Rhule for 3 years which is absolutely unbelievable to me and every single year he treated our roster like it was just one player away trading our draft picks for Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who have proven since leaving that Matt Rhule was an even bigger idiot of a coach than we thought. We finally seem to understand we are a ways off and trade CMC, but then we don’t take the actual good trade for Brian Burns who was never better than a run of the mill situational pass rusher. Then we botch the self scout of our OL (and team) after Wilks, even though they were bad before Wilks simplified the scheme, thinking they can execute whatever the hell Reich and Brown were trying to do. So we win a couple meaningless games playing dummy ball and Fitterer thinks we’re a player away again. And nobody even considers that having the slowest receiving corps imaginable with Damiere freaking Byrd, who can’t even make it to the season before being injured and cut, as your only hope for speed, coupled with the worst pass blocking OL I’ve ever seen, might lead to titanic levels of disaster. The way Canales and Morgan have been adamant about constantly bringing competition at every position has been refreshing and made a huge difference. I was kind of worried that we had fallen into our old ways leading up to the draft with all the talk of defense only and worried that they might feel the offense was set. Very glad to see they were not complacent on that. My big thing now is I’m still wondering why Evero is still here. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten better under him, and the Broncos defense got better once he left. We’ll see.
    • really good interview that gives some insight into their decision making process in making up the schedules and the issues they run into with so many people broadcasting games now. also some interesting discussion on what they have going on and where they might be heading in the international games. vikings have 2 of them, btw. we might be seeing more of that.
    • wow i absolutely LOVED watching that.   will watch again...and again...and again.
