Report: Dolphins Trying To Trade LBs Philip Wheeler & Dannell Ellerbe

the reason why the Dolphins haven’t announced the release of either linebackers Philip Wheeler or Dannell Ellerbe is because they are trying to trade them before 4 PM EST today.

Previous reports had said that the Dolphins were releasing Ellerbe and planned to make Wheeler a post-June 1 release.

Both of them were offseason acquisitions a few years during the Dolphins big free agent spending spree in which they also got Mike Wallace.

Ellerbe, still has another three years remaining on his five-year, $34.75 million contract that includes $14 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $8.425 million (2015), $6.45 million (2016), and $6 million (2017) coming his way.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Ellerbe will free up $5.65 million in available cap space while creating $4.2 million in dead money.

Last year, Ellerbe was limited to appearing in just one game due to a hip injury he sustained in early September.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Wheeler after June 1 will free up $3 million in cap space while creating $1.4 million in dead money.

Wheeler, 30, still had three years remaining on his five-year, $26 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed. He would have made base salaries of $2.9 million (2015) and $4.9 million (2016-2017) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2014, Wheeler appeared in 15 games and recorded 45 tackles for the Dolphins. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 outside linebacker in a 4-3 system out of 40 qualifying players.

According to Andre Johnson's brother he's looking at 4 teams: Pats, Packers, Seahawks, Colts

The rich getting richer...

Agreed and it's interesting how FA has been such a big part of those team's success. The last two SB winners alone have been heavy in FA in their respective years, and now you see those teams not only reloading, but being the apple of many free agent's eye.

Seahawks Sign CB Cary Williams To A Three-Year, $18M Deal

Eagles CB Cary Williams will be signing with the Seahawks.

Williams receives a three-year contract worth $18 million that includes base salaries of $7 million (2015), $5 million (2016) and $6 million (2017).

Williams reportedly had contract offers from the Ravens, Jets, and Titans, but it appeared as though he could be headed to Seattle barring a large offer from one of the other teams.

Earlier in the day, the Seahawks signed veteran CB Will Blackmon, so they are clearly looking to bolster their depth heading into offseason workouts.

Williams, 30, appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 60 tackles, two interceptions and 10 pass defenses last year. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 49 cornerback in the league out of 108 qualifying players.

Chargers LB Andrew Gachkar generating interest from the Vikings, Panthers and Raiders. Visits to each this week possible.

Gachkar, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Chargers back in 2011. He has since played out his four-year, $2,085,900 rookie contract that included just $45,900 guaranteed and appears to have enough interest that he will be able to secure a sizable raise.

Last year, Gachkar appeared in 15 games and recorded 49 tackles, a fumble recovery and scored a defensive touchdown for the Chargers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
