NFL Free Agency Update Thread

Cowboys are already making calls to other running backs now that it appears as though RB DeMarco Murray will be signing with to the Eagles.

Cowboys could look to the draft for a replacement to Murray given the amount of depth at the position.

Eagles are prepared to pay Murray as a top-five running back.
the real issue the amount of guaranteed money between the Cowboys’ offer and what the Eagles are willing to give him.

Previous reports have said that C.J. Spiller could be a fallback option for the Cowboys in free agency, depending on how things go with Murray. It’s also worth mentioning that Ryan Mathews could still be available, seeing as he’s yet to officially sign an agreement with the Eagles.

Chiefs traded this year's 5th-round pick to Saints for two-time Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs, per league source.

Grubbs, 31, has another two years remaining on his five-year, $36 million contract that includes $15.9 million guaranteed. He’ll make base salaries of $6.5 million in 2015 and $7.2 million in 2016.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Grubbs will free up $3,600,000 in available cap space while creating $6 million in dead money.

Ryan Mathews still hasn't returned from his physical. Eagles and Mathews had a financial agreement. Source says situation is now "fluid".

"Fluid" as in Mathews has taken the contract, thrown it on the floor, and is pissing on it cuz now he can get more $$$ from someone else / Eagles join him pissing on it saying GTFO we don't need you now

Rams are hosting free agent OLB Akeem Ayers for a visit on Thursday.

Ayers was a name to keep an eye on for the Rams.

Ayers, is an intriguing free agent given that he really came on for New England after they traded a 2015 sixth round pick to the Titans in return for him.

Tennessee used a second round pick on him back in 2011, but he wasn’t able to live up to his draft status with them, which led to him being inactive a few times this past season.

In 2014, Ayers appeared in 11 games last year and recorded 23 tackles, four sacks, an interception and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 46 qualifying players.

NFL Notes: Bears, Cardinals, Cowboys, Eagles, Patriots, Ravens, & Vikings

Bears
free agent S Ron Parker‘s visit with the Bears is ongoing.

Cardinals
LB Nate Irving is visiting the Cardinals Thursday.

Cowboys
Cowboys brought in RB Ray Agnew for a workout.

Eagles
Dont rule out the Eagles and HC Chip Kelly possibly targeting Oregon QB Marcus Mariota until someone else has selected him.

Patriots
Patriots are looking for someone to replace the role of RB Shane Vereen and they could consider adding either RB C.J. Spiller or WR Percy Harvin.
Pats HC Bill Belichick has a certain dollar figure in mind and he won’t budge from this number.

Ravens
Ravens will likely be in the market for receiver market in the coming days.
Dwayne Bowe and Mike Wallace as two players to keep an eye on.

Vikings
Adrian Peterson‘s father says that the Vikings will be meeting with his son again at some point in the near future.

“They will meet again,”  “I’m not going to say who’s going to be at the meeting. I can’t comment on that.”

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
