Sacks + QB Hits allowed, 2014

Bridgewater also quietly put up very solid numbers. Terrible O Line and his "weapons" were Mike Asiata, Greg Jennings and Jarius Wright. He is going to be a very, very solid QB. Maybe better than very solid...

I'm going to attribute it to the lack of preseason practise due to the surgery but Newton's play last season was not the best. He has to improve this season. It's no wonder he doesn't want to sign now because I am sure he didn't like the money DG offered him based on his performance.

I think you need to go rewatch the games of our offensive line pre-Remmers, Norwell, and Turner.  I even admitted at the end that Cam was feeling phantom pressure once he finally started to get time.  Our offensive line was actually pretty solid towards the end of the year.

Stats need context.

But by all means, come in guns-a-blazing and try to stir poo up.  It is a TonyN thread after all.

I can understand all that, phantom pressure and all. But how about the QBs above him who actually experienced not phantom pressure but real pressure. They did not "fold". Nothing will destroy a QB faster than speeding up throws and mechanics due to phantom pressure.

And I am not saying those QBs are better than him, he just needs to put it all together sooner than later.

I'm not going to get into the back and forth with Cam, but all I will say is that Cam really needs to progress. He has made very little strides in his development. Whether that is Shula or on him doesn't matter, he isn't getting better. Still overthrows, still makes stupid decisions, still takes ill-advised sacks at the worst possible time, etc. I just hope he puts it all together soon. If not, there will be no superb owl for us. Hopefully he improves drastically this upcoming season.

Only surprising to some...we know most of the people on this forum only watch Panther football but the rest of us who watch the NFL as a whole knew the Panthers weren't the only ones with a bad OL...(Seattle and Indy for example).

Seattle starts a first rounder at LT as do the Pats, as do 17 others. We were the only team with UDFA left and right tackles. This list is a credit to Cam's brilliance and our late season surge.

Luck also throws on average 600+ times a season. Cam barely hits 500 a season. Even though Cam has played a full 14 games more than Luck, Luck has thrown almost as many passes (Cams over 1900 attempts through 4 seasons Lucks at 1800 through 3 seasons) that's why those numbers are skewed. We don't throw a whole lot.

Simply being a #1 pick means squat...last years draft actually added to the questioning of OTs in the first.

Cam has good escapes but his best weren't from last year and he just as often holds it and doesn't throw it away or spins back and takes an even bigger loss.

Wilson is a better example of brilliant escapes...he may as well be Houdini.

Cam and Wilson are more comparable as they both had around 450 attempts last year and rely on the running game.

Luck throws a lot and has no run game...passing is all they do.

Its not only the line Denver has, it's mostly how fast Peyton gets the ball out and also how they are usually running the ball at the end of games

Exactly, there are more variables at work here too. The type of offense, west coast or vertical, how many pass attempts, never mind arguably the greatest signal caller of all time?

Some people won't be happy with Cam until he's making 40-50 pass attempts per game regardless of our win loss record, regardless of the talent we actually have on the outside. Keep in mind QB's like Stafford and Luck have about 150 more pass attempts per year than Cam. That's at least an extra five games worth of passing stats. We saw what Cam was capable of doing passing his first two games in the league, but both those games ended up in loses. This team has been built mostly around the D, and in order for them to succeed they need rest. We can't be going up and down the field Eagle style and expect them to hold up. In fact, I believe the Eagles D will always struggle until the O slows down and gives them a breather. You simply can't expect to survive Dec and Jan putting the D out there for 35 minutes per game, every game.

This is from data from 1990-2009.  I can't find a larger sample size.  QBs, DE's, and OLB's have the highest first round bust rates with OT's being relatively safe.

Tyron Smith, Joe Staley, Duane Brown, Joe Thomas, Ryan Clady, Jake Long have all been All Pro players SINCE 2009.  Nate Soldier was the only Pats starter on offense drafted in the 1st round.

Wilson can do what a healthy Cam can do?  No fugging way.
