"Panthers select somebody to pressure quarterback, not protect their own"

Truth hurts

Are you ever happy Aceboogie? I can't help but imagine you stewing over everything the panthers choose to do. You say gettleman is a terrible GM? He's been constantly getting first round talent in all rounds of the draft. Is fixing our cap issues that almost ruined us. Lastly made serious needed cuts and had to rebuild 3 position groups last year because of money problems yet still made it to the playoffs? How the fug is that a bad GM!?

He's not a terrible GM, not a great one either. He's average, and despite his age he's learning on the job. I like some of the things he's done, and I hate other things. I'm just not a fan. And despite my post here I'm actually a very happy person. Currently sitting in Port Canaveral waiting to board my cruise, I'm very happy. Just a passionate fan who's objective amongst Panther fans. When talking to fans of other teams I defend every move Gettleman makes. Except the Steve Smith release.

It is going to be hilarious when we take a DE in round 2

the meltdown among the pessimists and haters here will be absolutely glorious.

Helping the D will help the O.  If it puts us in a position to run the ball more, that protects Cam.

^this.

you have to examine the philosophy that Gettleman approaches the game with. its a time-tested philosophy. Panthers.com recently posted Gettleman's story and his pedigree. im paraphrasing, but Gman said that you have to run the ball, stop the run, and rush the passer. this makes every other facet of the game easier.

run the ball? win time of possession and break the will of the opposing defense. also, keeps the QB healthy and makes it easier for him to pass the ball because it lulls the defense to sleep.

stop the run? prevent the opposing team from accomplishing the aforementioned goal, making them one-dimensional.

rush the passer? after shutting down the run, this makes opposing offenses unable to move the ball and, thus, score points. the less points the other team scores, the less points we need to win.

everyone who freaks out about no protection or weapons seems to have the unreasonable expectation that the Panthers should put up 40 points every game, fug what happens on defense.

defense is more important. running the ball is more important than passing on offense.

Two WR's were drafted right after we picked by two GM's who have been more successful at their jobs than Gettleman has.

How can you say that when everyone said man the Colts have completely ignored defense, they have the oldest defense in the league. Colts are super unbalanced in the opposite way. Plus commentary last night was don't they already have the same guy in TY Hilton?

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
