Cam Newton Winner from Day 2

Recommended Posts

NFL Network gives Cam and Gettleman some love.

CAM NEWTON

Dave Gettleman has proven to be one of the league's best drafters since taking over the Panthers' war room. He has an uncanny knack for spotting talent that will fit his team's needs. Understanding that Newton is wild high and needs targets with expanded strike zones, he has picked up humongous wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess in the past two drafts. It's not a matter of if but when Newton's contract will be extended. The team is being built around his unique skills.

I seriously doubt this wild high analysis is why Getts drafted them at all.

Question, did Benjamin drop more passes than Newton threw wild high last year?

That's debatable. I'd say I remember close to equal the amount of times I'd watch games and be like aww wtf Cam vs. aww wtf Kelvin. Lol

Like I said in another thread, the investment required to get Funchess is the surest sign other than an actual contract extension that Carolina is committed to Cam.

That along with Cam's comments in the recent interview should put to sleep the people here crying that he's going to walk (looking at you aceboogie...).

There is no way that it didn't play a factor. Cam throws high sometimes, period. Why get tiny receivers for your QB that you know tends to put the ball 10 feet off the ground?

OK, did anyone witness Steve Smith producing 1400, 1200, and 800 yard receiving seasons with Cam?

This over throw BS is ridiculous.

Come on people, it's the skill of the receiver. Benji has it and so hopefully will the Rookie.

If Benji cleans up last years drops he will totally dominate.

Steve Smith is an absolute exception - that man can jump and outmuscle defenders like few other receivers of any size. No one is saying that Cam is inaccurate or throws every single pass high, but you're deluding yourself if you try to deny Cam's tendency to throw high.

A tall receiver is the answer.

Got it.

Why is it only 50.3% of Cam's attempts to Benjamin succeeded last year?

One of us is delusional.

Your statistic is misleading, particularly because Benjamin's drop rate was 10%. Factoring that in, Benji's catch rate is almost 2% higher than Cam's overall completion rate (which would also adjust slightly upward if KB caught those passes). Statistically significant? Depends on the analysis you run, but bigger targets offer a number of benefits and getting up high is usually near the top of the list.

Not true, Benjamin's drop rate was 6.9%, he did have 10 drops however, not 10%.

Point is drops aren't balls 3 feet over your outstretched hands.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
