True Detective Season Two

Back peddling Darth hipster? It's simple. You said the writing has been soooooo bad this season. All I'm asking for is why you think it's so bad, just list examples it shouldn't be that hard right? Because either A) you can't list any examples because you have none in which you were just saying that to be a hipster fug or B) you do list examples which then I'd be glad to show you each and every part of the scene that went over your head. So which is it Darth?

My god man. It's a TV show. I don't memorize every line and I'm not going back and re-watching just to prove a point to a keyboard warrior. Stop being such a whiny dick and just state your opinion. There's no need for a giant 3 page argument. I've tried to take it back to the show and you won't let me.... Have at it and I'll be back next week to let you know my opinion of that episode for you to tell me how stupid I am.

So when presented with an actual opportunity to explain your opinions you choose not to. Got it. Thanks for confirming what I already suspected. You're a doll.

Great job trying to get someone who isn't enjoying a show to elaborate about it in accordance with your standards over the span of 3 pages in a TV show thread on a football message board.

I think compared to most other shows this season would be top notch, it's just hard to touch the first season, and the actors are just better from the first season as well.  I think people liked the, at least we thought, paranormal stuff going on and it was interesting.  I really like McAdams character though, and Vaughn is doing the best he can.   I completely understand why people wouldn't like this season though, so I don't think it's fair to hate on them, plus not all shows are for everyone.

I think this is just something you have to prepare for, for anthology shows.  Not all American Horror Story seasons are alike and there is a good change Fargo won't touch the first season as well.

Excellent points and mirrors exactly what I'm thinking... it's not a "bad" show...  and if I'm guilty of anything it's comparing it too much with season 1 which was literally one of the best things I've ever seen, movie, tv, netflix, whatever...

Between season 1 of TD and the entirety of House of Cards, other shows have to be so insanely good now it's really not fair.

Spoiler alert...

House of Cards lost me when Frank started flat out murdering people. I really lost interest after that and only made it like 2 or 3 episodes into season 2. Are you saying I should finish it? Because I stopped quietly rooting for him when the unnecessary murdering started.

As for TD2, I've said it earlier that there are too many disparate complicated characters to really get the most out of them in so few episodes. It feels rushed and frenetic because the show hints at the depth of the characters but you don't actually get much exposition of what that depth is...or at least enough of the depth to really connect with or care about all of the characters.

For example, the gay motorcycle cop (I forget his characters name), that guy alone has so much turmoil going on that so much more could be said about him but he feels two dimensional to me. Like I'm supposed to just feel for him because...war...or molested...or gay and conflicted...or now going to be a dad.

I think the first season was tight because you only really had the 2 characters to develop and the writer did just that. I became emotionally invested in both of their viewpoints because each viewpoint was developed whereas these characters seem extraordinarily conflicted and thrown at me. That's not to say I'm not enjoying it but I'm inevitably comparing it to the first season because it is the same writer (like others have said...that bar is pretty damn high). I just feel like he's trying to do too much...kind of like Game of Thrones (which I also like).

My two cents so far.

See and this is exactly what I was trying to get across to college boy here, is that everyone's opinion is different and that's OK, I don't think you're dumb for not watching the rest of HoC, you just didn't respond to it like I did.  I honestly feel that HoC is hands down the best "tv show" I've ever watched.  There's utterly no comparison really with anything to me, except perhaps TD season 1 and to call it a "tv show" is a bit of a stretch...    Yeah, 'Breaking Bad' and GoT are up there too, but HoC is IT for me.

imo, yes definitely finish HoC.  Frank's pragmatism, and the fact that he will literally do anything, ANYTHING, is what drives that whole show to me.

As for TD season 2, I agree, they've spent SO much time developing these four main characters that I feel it's left the overall story in a lurch...  with only two more episodes to go, I don't see how they'll wrap the story up convincingly...

I'll give it a shot. For me Band of Brothers was flat out amazing as was Deadwood. Those are my top 2. I was all in on House of Cards and then the murdering started and meh. I felt upset because to me it was unnecessary and put the main character in a position that he didn't need to be in. But you're right. That's me and my perspective. I also really like the first season of Newsroom (I think that's what it's called). I thought that was pretty tight and entertaining. True Detective 1st season I think for me might be #3 all time.

Story arcs are important and some shows go on too long in the interest of making money. For example, I loved the first several seasons of Sons of Anarchy because they were playing out the story of Hamlet basically, with many Sons of Liberty references and tinges of Hells Angels. But it went beyond that and I lost interest. Dexter....went on too long. Breaking Bad got lost in the middle but brought it back around nicely. Most successful shows go on too long in my opinion.

You know, for whatever reason BoB didn't enter my mind, but yes, you're right, it is an all-time great.

Deadwood, Dexter and SoA are three of the shows, along with 'The Wire' and 'Hannibal' that I have on my list to get to, I just haven't yet.

Shows definitely go up and down, and Breaking Bad is definitely one of those, but I loved it.  One of my favorite shows, the american version of 'Life on Mars' is great to me and one of the main reasons is that they got to wrap it up and end it in a neat way instead of letting it die off or carrying on too long after they knew it was ending.

I forgot about The Wire. I'd say it is in the top 10 for sure and just might crack the top 5. Excellent show...plus I live in Baltimore so it's topical for me. :)

Smh, all "college boy" asked you to do was substantiate your shitty opinion and when pressed to do so you folded like a lawn chair. All I asked was for you to tell me where and how the writing was bad for you. You couldn't do that. That's kinda the whole fuging point of message boards. State and expand on opinions. Yet when I gave you a perfect avenue to do so you hit me with "I'm not going to get into a 3 page war with a keyboard warrior" poo is pathetic. Next time. Keep your little female insults out of posts that don't involve me.

    • Thank God DM used that #8 pick on a bona fide WR1 and not some bum pass rushing prospect like Stewart or someone else. I believe Tet is legit WR1 material and going forward will be our long term answer at that position since we desperately were in need of one once they traded away DJ Moore.  Tet could possibly end up even being better long term than someone who I respect a ton as a WR in Moore. Evans has been a pleasant surprise and great TE/FB depth piece going forward who could make the most of his opportunities.  Any good offense worth a damn in the NFL has 3 TEs that can do multiple things and being scared by Ian Thomas play for years should makes us all appreciate what Evans is quietly doing as a ROOKIE at one of the hardest positions to learn at the pro level.  Keep cooking DM. This season is not over obviously but seeing some growth out of young talent finally is a breathe of fresh fuggin air for once.
    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
