Team Leader- KK?

Star was banged up almost all season long last year.  Here in a few months there's going to be a ton of threads about how much Star has improved and what a beast he is.  It'll be cause he's healthy again.

KK is really good, but what he does on the field is more easily replaced than what Star does.

Seriously, surprised it took this long for someone to say this.

Star makes Luke a better player with all the extra attention he draws as it allows Luke to run free.

There are lots of pass rushing DT's, especially when we have a few DE's who can slide inside as well, but you don't come across the big space eaters as good as Star will be all to often.

If push comes to shove, Star will stay and KK will move on.

You also have to remember that Star is a family guy, I'm sure his family is getting settled and might not want to uproot them, so he could take a hometown discount to stick around.

I'm not totally sure that this is true.  I can definitely see your point..you do have an argument..guys that command double teams are valuable.  But it is a league where getting to the QB is becoming everything. Pass rushing is an art form, and I dont think there are a lot of guys that are great pass rushers from the DT position.  My real point is that its hard to come up with an easy answer for this.

Agreed on Kalil, but the picture was taken before Stewart's explosion the last few games of the season and before Norman's dominance over the last half of the year. Also Tolbert was injured for most of the season.

I agree. And I'm not saying K is a bad player by any means. But you have to admit that he looks mildly out of place based on the eye test. I don't think Stu or Tolbert would have prompted discussion.

Cap-wise, CJ and Kalil have this year and next before their contracts expire. Coincidentally (maybe not), Star and KK's rookie contracts will be expiring, too. We'll effectively be shifting money from CJ and Kalil to Star and KK when we keep all 4 players in that off-season. No worries.

If Gettleman drafts another NT it will be due to BPA and/or the age of the depth behind Star. KK isn't going anywhere as well as Star unless a huge drop in production occurs. Injuries can make anyone seem pedestrian or less effective. (CJ the first half of the season, Cam...damn near all last year, etc..etc....etc)

Star does his job ..and he does much of it just off pure strength....I expect big things from these two... especially entering season #3

Not that it matters much, but it looks to me like each player was photographed separately and then put together later in photoshop. It might have just been a matter of which shots looked better next to the others, not necessarily a statement on who is most important to the team (other than Cam in the middle of course)

Sorry if this has been discussed..

I saw this picture awhile ago, and thought it was interesting that KK was in this picture.  It made me think that our FO might view him as one of the key players on our team.  I have always loved KK's game..he is a great pass rushing DT.  I was talking to my dad recently and he made a comment about how he heard that the team has already discussed keeping KK over Star if they were forced to choose between the two.  He said Star didn't live up to expectations last year, which i had already heard..he finished strong though.

I was just wondering if anyone else thought his presence in this picture was interesting..?  I've always thought he was a great player, but i dont think anyone would think to put him in the same category of importance as the other players in this picture.

Thoughts?

Had to bring this one back after Jeremy's photo today. Looks like they modified...
