Barclays Premier League- 2015/16 Season Thread

Aguero had a pretty bad hamstring injury last night and will require scan to determined the extent of his injury...  It's not looking good for him.  Aguero projected to be sidelined for over a month at least.  It's a major blow for Manchester City because Aguero was on fire.

silva also injured in first 10 minutes of spain game. yikes.

Klopp wanted Benteke at Dortmund, but was put off by his asking price. He was also a huge admirer of Roberto Firmino. I expect Klopp to come in and trim the fat, like Joe Allen, Dejan Lovren, Jose Enrique, and maybe Lallana if he can't adapt to his style of play.

Late to this thread, but agree here. I liked the signing of Firmino, but he wasn't utilized properly under Rodgers. The names you mentioned need to be gone, along with Mignolet, Balotelli (permanent sale), Ings and Milner, to name a few.

The core of Sturridge, Coutinho, Benteke and Henderson is a solid one. They just need to be built around.

I agree with just about everything here except Ings. He fits the Klopp mold pretty well. Young, energetic, doesn't mind tracking back, etc. He needs work, but Klopp could mold him into something pretty good.

I could also see Benteke not fitting in with Klopp, though I don't think he'd be an immediate sale, mostly due to Liverpool having just spent £32m on him. To play in Klopp's gegenpressing philosophy, you have to be willing to run and to press the opposition when you lose the ball, two things Benteke really doesn't do. I'm not 100% sure he can adapt.

I like Benteke too. He's a clinical finisher, and gangly, but doesn't have the one-hit-wonder I always get with similar players to him. I think and hope Klopp will do well. He didn't waste tens of millions on terrible signings like the last few Liverpool managers have done. Liverpool fans dislike their owner but at least they've supported their managers financially and with time.

What do you think of Arsenal, ARSEN? Sorry, I'm not scrolling back a load of pages! I went to the Emirates to see them earlier in the season and they looked fantastic. I always though they were just 2 players or so away from being a very successful team.

Arsenal have an amazing squad and can win the league this year if Wengers stops screwing with the line up like he did in Champions League.  Arsenal attack is only behind Real Madrid so far this season for scoring chances created.  If you watched Arsenal vs. Manchester United 10 days ago, you could see how Arsenal shredded Manchester United defense in the first half.  It should of been 5-0 with United struggling to generate anything.  The whole season success depends on Wenger...  Arsenal player chemistry is fantastic but Wenger keeps sticking back-ups in vital positions to give them playing time and the whole team chemistry blows up... People look out of the position and timing on passes is just horrible.  Everytime he does it, team loses but he continues to press on.  Stubborn as hell.

Any more specifics on what you disagree with?

basically what dirty magic said.  why do you want ings out?  imo he's been one of the few bright spots this year.  every time he is on he plays with energy it seems like none of our other players have.  he's a very hard working player that can do a lot of good things on the pitch.  versatile player.  he's never gonna be a star, but i think he's a really nice guy to have on the squad who's still young and i think he'll only get better under klopp.  no idea why you'd want him out.  he arguably has worked harder than any other player we have this year.

Prior to his injury, I thought Klopp could mold Ings into a perennial 15+ goal scorer, with an occasional 20-goal campaign mixed in. It looks like his ACL injury isn't as bad as originally thought, and his recovery time should be closer to 6 months than 9 months, but that's still a tough injury to come back from.

Ings has played well as of late (until his knee injury), but I think he's expendable, like the overwhelming majority of the team and Rodgers' signings. I also think he could get some decent transfer money for the club in a sale to the bottom level EPL teams (Only sure "keeps," are the ones I listed earlier, plus maybe Skrtel, as he's been a rock on the backline). I'm not saying I'd be upset if he was kept, ala some other glaring guys, and I probably shouldn't have included him in the immediate transfer list, but he shouldn't be exempt from it.

Rodgers greatest downfall, which will affect the club for the foreseeable future, was holding onto players that looked better than they were when playing along side an all-world combination of Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson and Gerrard (God, I miss that group) and his misuse of the massive transfer money the club got from Suarez and Sterling.

    • Yep he made the comment " I dont know what they were doing out there at that point" in the press conference. Let's be real they all got paid but they also know his system suppresses there offensive potential.
    • Yup the casuals on Facebook ive gotten 85 laughing or angry emojis so far for pointing it out.  The amount of them throwing a fit because the canes were booed is insane
    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
