Practice over. No practice for Funchess; worked on side. No sign of Kalil. Remmers/Folkerts split 1st team snaps at C. Horton LDE, Ealy RDE

Max Henson @PanthersMax 2m2 minutes ago

So Devin Funchess came to practice with his helmet, but he solely worked with trainers on the side.

Max Henson @PanthersMax 3m3 minutes ago

DE Charles Johnson, OL Amini Silatolu and TE Brandon Williams also worked with trainers on the side.

C Ryan Kalil was not here at practice. Rivera said he sprained knee. Won't play again in preseason. Trying to be ready for Week 1.

Carolina Panthers @Panthers 40s40 seconds ago

Ron Rivera says center Ryan Kalil is nursing a sprained knee. The team will take a cautious approach and evaluate him next week.

A few more tweets, but all pretty much similar...

David Newton @DNewtonespn 3m3 minutes ago

#Panthers rookie WR Devin Funchess ran on the side. Ron Rivera said he responds well in the morning he will practice Tuesday.

Joe Person @josephperson 4m4 minutes ago

Guys were dressed but DNP today: Funchess, Brandon Williams, Silatolu. ... Charles Johnson worked out hard on the side w/ weighted sled.

They're being cautious with Kalil. I believe he plays against Jacksonville. No sense in risking an All Pro center in the fourth exhibition

I just decided to look up a bit more info on the new TE signed today, Dallas Walker.  He's 6-6, so that makes some sense.  Another tall target for Cam to throw to.

Here's a little background I found on him... He was in training camp with Charges in 2013 and Dallas 2014, but hasn't played in any NFL game

David Newton has a few more comments about practice today now posted:

http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/15203/rt-mike-remmers-becomes-center-of-attention-on-line-with-ryan-kalil-injured

In addition to the news that Remmers will be working at Center in the absence of Kalil, these nuggets:

  • DE update: The Panthers waived/injured defensive end Frank Alexander, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on the fourth play of Friday’s win against Miami. If Alexander clears waivers he’ll go on injured reserve and become a restricted free agent after the season. Kony Ealy continues to get the first-team work at right end. With Charles Johnson (calf) still out on the left side, Wes Horton got first-team snaps there. Horton was the starter most of last season because of his ability to stop the run. He’s trying to become a better all-around end. He had a sack-strip fumble against the Dolphins.

  • Not so happy: Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott jumped on his defense midway through practice for a lack of intensity and focus. He became quite animated.

  • Funchess update: Wide receiver Devin Funchess (hamstring) ran on the side, but did not practice. If the second-round draft pick responds well overnight he likely will practice on Tuesday morning. Funchess is the most likely candidate to replace No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last week.

  • Play of the day: Wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. beat cornerback Charles Tillman deep for a perfectly thrown touchdown pass from quarterback Cam Newton.

Some detailed practice comments from the Charlotte Observer write up now posted

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article32262918.html

Tolbert must have been hearing us talk about him and he did something good in practice...  LOL.

Not gonna like what you read about 1st team O.  Sigh.

I wonder who Addison burned on the OLine in the Red Zone drill?  Doesn't say.  (Earlier it is mentioned that Addison burned Foucault.  But not sure if it was also Foucault burned on the 2nd play.)
