Five Players to watch tonight (Panthers.com)

From Bryan Strickland...

Five players to watch: Panthers at Steelers

The players named?  Kevin Norwood, Devin Funchess (means he'll play), Colin Jones, T J Heath and Scott Simonson.

One tidbit I took note of...

The Panthers' decision to part with cornerback Melvin White increases the chances that Heath can work his way onto the 53-man roster – a scenario that seemed highly unlikely when he was signed early in training camp to replace retiring corner Chris Houston. Could Heath, who has shown a knack for getting his hands on the ball, be this year's Fozzy Whittaker? There's also increased hope for undrafted rookie safety Dean Marlowe given Carolina's decision to waive Robert Lester.

Why is that notable to me?  Honestly, it's because I had completely forgotten that Chris Houston was ever even here this past camp (seems like forever ago).

I'd like to see Them feature Wegher tonight. They limited him to only two carries against the Patriots. Fizzy was given 23 attempts in this game last year. I'd like to see the same production for #32. I've seen the hype being discounted by others calling it overhype. But this kids (football)resume has every reason for the hype music that's been playing. Iowa H.S. Rushing record holder. Holds the Iowa Hawkeyes freshmen record for td's in a season. Holds the NAIA single season rushing record. And holds the all time rushing record at Morningside College where he only played for two seasons. And I found this one out the other day. In his last HS game which was the state championship, the score was 28-0. He scored every offensive td's in the came including a 99yd interception return for the games final td. Oh, and he kicked all the extra points..lol! He scored all the points! You just can't make that stuff up. We've got some good journeymen RB's, but this kid is something different..

Wegher's a fan favorite, no doubt. I know I'm pulling for him. As for his college exploits, I'd say his Iowa record is the most impressive. He outclassed everyone in the NAIA. And you forgot the FG he made in that HS championship game- 45 pts. total.

    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 3 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ??
