A Tale Of Two Queen Cities, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Hate Greyhound, or How I pissed my scoliosis right off.

Man.  I just got back to the hotel after walking/busing around by public transportation all day and what's on NBC?  A murder mystery show on Dateline NBC about Billings, MT.  This is amazing.  If I were to write this in one of my specfic pieces, no one would ever believe this.   And some dude flew out here from North Dakota with his girlfriend and was at the stadium tour I did, and we got pictures with people from freaking Ireland.  They live here now, but their very thick accent was a bit interesting to understand. Two lifelong fans here from ND and MT...and they show up in the same week to the same game.

Good news: the luggage showed up.  I will be getting that sometime tomorrow once I'm not dead.  That's a lie.  I will be getting that tomorrow once I'm less dead.

So.  Due to my favorite place to shop--if none of you have anything around here like it, Safeway is a grocery store chain that allows you to save various amounts of gas points towards a gallon of gas in a month--one of the ways I've been getting around and doing things here is eating at Olive Garden, McCormick and Schmick's, and other places, due to their benefiting me in two aspects.  M&S was in no way worth the amount of the gift cards in respect to how much food I got, but oh well.  It's food for a couple days.

I did, indeed, eat at Bojangles--chicken sandwich and a Pepsi, I'm not tremendously picky when it comes to cheap culinary nutrients on the go--and I'm indifferent about the Bo.  It's not bad.  I'm just not really into fast food unless emergencies happen.

I allowed myself one non-food purchase by gift card today, and my secret evil plan is to slowly lure my Packers roommates into becoming Panthers fans by bringing them into the delights of southern cooking.  At Barnes and Noble, after some searching, I did indeed find a cookbook somewhat in the vein of what I was looking for, and so when I get back home, I'm going to try my hand at cooking every now and then.  As to how good of a cook I am, there's something we call The Incendiary Chocolate Chip Cookie Incident which, well, speaks for itself and can't be mentioned around certain ovens for fear of ptsd and general emotional cruelty.

I got a little Panthers gear, but not much--most of what I wanted wasn't in the store and I was honestly a bit disappointed in the selection; however, that's one of the things I've always wanted to see up-close-and-in-person, and so for nothing else, I'm glad I did that.

I'm glad you started the thread.  When I heard you were taking a BUS from MT to BOA it just seemed perfect.  I used to take a bus from Nashville to Wilmington back in the early 90's when the Man decided to be a bitch and take my license away (again) so I have fond? memories of those excursions.   Not sure I would call it a vacation, riding a bus for that many miles, with that many stops, is more of a full-time job.  The fact that you do this, with limited resources, to come watch the Panthers, is amazing.

I gave it a shot--but I think my flying gameplan will probably work out.  It's just going to be a bit more difficult to piece together chronologically.

#1 is myself with the Irish men  to the left and the North Dakota contingent to the right.  #2 is myself with 'cookinwithgas' aka Brian of pantherfanz.net to my right.  #3 is myself with a whole bunch of Canadians from Alberta at the Pantherfanz.net tailgate!  #6 is myself with 'cardiaccats'.  cardiac was the very first Huddler I ever met in person, and I approached him on a lark!  Brian invited me to an awesome tailgate and has the best party bus I've ever seen.

  • 3 weeks later...

I flew into the Great Falls, MT airport one time...talk about a fuging shithole, wowzers. I had a week-long TDY at Malmstrom AFB while I was in the Air Force. Montana is definitely an "interesting" place.

Only place I've ever seen with a casino/laundrymat/liquor store on every block.
