How about getting a receiving option that can consistently get open AND CATCH? lol...

And anyway, idk how many of you have watched him this season, but when I've seen him, he has looked pretty shitty compared to past seasons...

Haven't watched him at all, but that'd be disappointing.  Wouldn't want him if he's washed up, of course.

And a receiving option would be nice too, heh.  But haven't heard of any on the block (except Alshon rumors, but those seemed flimsy)

I thought I'd read the opposite, but hopefully Frank the Tank can come all the way back.  (and hey, while I'm being hopeful, I hope Steve can do the same)

It will be difficult for Steve(and Cam Wake for that matter), but as long as Frank doesn't slack on rehab(legitimate worry) he should bounce back fine.

Something that I don't think is brought up enough is the fact that our dead money is still 10+ million this year from Smitty, Deangalo, and Godfrey which will be significantly less next year... That decrease in dead money, along with the continual rise in the cap and potential cuts means we probably do have the ability to pay Thomas elite money

We could afford him we just don't know Gmans plan going forward...we offered Norman a decent contract and he turned it down...he will probably get tagged but don't be surprised at all if he doesn't get an elite contract...this team since Hurney has done Cam/Luke and that's about it.....It will be interesting to see what this team thinks of Norman as far as that goes...since we offered him what 8mil a year?

I would be pretty damn sure GMan isn't putting him on 14 a year...I'd be surprised.

He seems to value front seven and play on both sides of the trenches more than play at the skill positions.

It makes sense. If the front seven can simply overwhelm the opponent's offensive line, it will make life easier for a secondary that isn't very good. In 2013 it turned Mike Mitchell into a borderline pro bowl safety. It's been a top unit with Roman Harper at safety and this year with a past his prime Charles Tillman at corner.

It would depend on the salary numbers going forward, but I could see a scenario where he invests the money in a top o-line and d-line unit while letting a guy like Norman walk to pocket a nice comp pick.

This logic does not align with where the game is going.

Ask the last two Super Bowl champions how crucial top tier CB play can be to hoisting up a Lombardi Trophy.

If we want to settle for just making it to the playoffs regularly, let him walk. If we want a championship, players of Norman's caliber will be very crucial to that goal.

It's that simple really.

We can sign both Norman, and Short.

Yea the Pats first went with Talib and then rented Revis...there is something to be said for negating half of the field...at what cost though.

Honestly I don't see where you've said where to draw the line...we aren't writing Norman a blank check so what is the max TheRed will go?  Clearly it's more than 8mil/yr

$10 million a year would be a pretty damn good deal.

I would go $12 million a year, but it really depends on how he finishes the season anyways. Which is why I would have liked to get the deal done before the season started. If we make a run, and he keeps making big plays, his value is only going to go further up.

Numbers aside, simply letting him "walk", and hoping that we maybe get a comp pick is not even an option. That is simply idiotic.

Yea I was thinking 10.5 myself but I am not sure Norman is thinking that...of course I don't actually know what he wants but has his play increased his worth by 2.5 million/yr or in his mind even more?

I think 10.5 or a little more is perfectly fair...12 doesn't seem too bad I just wonder about Gman.....
Also I agree..damn I really wish he would have taken that 8mil a year...would have us sitting pretty in terms of $$ and production from that position.

Honestly we've done it before but I am tired of letting people walk for some BS comp pick...trading him could be an option but I think we'll see a tag before a long term deal....nothing concrete to go off of just what I'm feeling.

That extra couple million depends on how we finish the season, and how deep we go in the playoffs.

I know Gettleman values the trenches, but we've seen firsthand how ugly it can get with sub par talent in the secondary.

Roman Harper may be serviceable when we are playing teams with losing records, but when the chips are down against the best in the NFL, we need a playmaker. Norman is that guy. When you add in the uncertainty of Charles Johnson's future with the team, that makes Norman's role even more important IMO.

Norman isn't going to take a "hometown discount", no player will, but he does want to be here. I think we can work something out.
