a few thoughts on it here:

samuel might keep smith's production down but smith might be able to help out much in the way he did with deangelo hall but just keeping him occupied. probably won't draw the penalties but if samuel is allowed to roam he could cause some problems.

He shut down everyone they put against him. Most teams don't even throw his side of the field anymore, it was getting pointless. If he was an asshole with a huge posse hyping him up and played for a team that was well...a NFL team, he would be talked about as probably the best corner back in the last 10 years. He shut Steve Smith down and it kills me to say it.

wow, anyone saying Scrabble didn't shut down Smith last year is delusional. Smith admitted it, the Raiders play strictly man to man, and all the NFL pundits admitted as much. Aso could be the best corner in NFL history when it's all said and done. That said, Samuel isn't even 1/5th the CB Scrabble is. He won't shut down Smith...he could barely contain Fitzgerald

BULLSH*T. Aso used a classic arm-bar technique to beat Smith on that play.

He had one good game against Smith, I want to see him do it more than once - then we can say he's capable of shutting down Smith.

Oh yeah...because we play the Raiders alot right? how many CBs go against specific WRs not in the their divisions more than once or twice in their careers? Try not to choke on those sour grapes kid

Smith had Delhomme throwing him the ball. Since Jake lacks precision on his throws all you have to do is read the smoke route and jump with Smith and you've got him neutralized. However, it's a lot harder than it sounds.

I wonder what kind of numbers Steve Smith would put up with a true pocket quarterback like Manning, Brady, or Brees.

Pure garbage

Asante Samuel is one of the most overrated cornerbacks in the league. He shouldn't be in the same conversation as Nnamdi. He has gotten, and will get burned again by elite wide receivers. Not to mention, to my knowledge they don't move their cornerbacks around, so Steve probably won't have to face Samuel that much if the panthers do not want him to.

Asante Samuel is good but Steve Smith will torch his azz, watch what i tell you.

    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
