Why isn't Bene a full time starting corner over Tillman?

I like Tillman so don't get me wrong here but why was Bene moved to the nickel spot this year?  I've heard it said that he's a natural nickel corner but it seems to me he's played better starting opposite JNo.  I could be wrong and I probably missed something somewhere so someone enlighten me.

Tillman has been playing great this year. I don't know how anyone could miss that. Also Bene is better in the slot than Colin Jones. We saw Jones get burned about as bad as you can get burned today.

I wouldnt call his play great, but he has been serviceable. Teams arent picking on him, but he is still giving up long 3rd downs on the regular

Bene >>> Jones in the Slot. Jones is a nice player to have for ST and as a big nickel in certain situations, but just to play the Slot against a super shifty speedy guy,  I would take Bene covering over them. So with Bene in the slot you get your best three corners on the field, because you don't want Tillman inside. So Tillman, bene, Norman is what the coaching staff thinks gives them the best chance to win.

I had some serious Haruki Nakamura flashbacks during that play.

You guys realize in all this Jones hate that he is one of the fastest guys on the team right? The one play he got burned he tripped about 10 yards before the pass got there and stumbled, you cant really help that. Bene did great in relief of Tillman and I'm sure in years going foreward he might get that position but this year Peanut has provided valuable insight and vet leadership, and has also been very servicable on the field

    • thats fair.   I was beginning to think rookie punter was in the plans
    • Sam Martin   CARPunter#6 Panthers re-signed P Sam Martin to a two-year contract. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Martin’s deal is up to $5 million. Martin joined the Panthers last season on a one-year deal and wound up booting 56 punts for an average of 47.2 yards per punt. Martin is a 13-year vet of the league who has spent time with four different franchises. He landed a career-best 48.2 percent of his kicks inside his opponent’s 20-yard line last season.
    • Surprised CB is that low.  19th is odd spot. For many recent drafts, teams only felt there were around 14 first round players.  So to many 19 is just an early second and doesn't hold the value of a first.  If you go off- the smart path of LT, QB, edge, WR, CB, etc. Whatever your OG, Safety, ILB, etc needs to be a difference maker, that's the key point. I've said the 8th best edge is better than the 1st safety. Same for QB and even WRs. You should 100% factor in position value.  MHS you've been wanting a FS, let me tell you its super difficult to be a difference making FS. You're just sooo farrrr away from the action and the end result most times. If you're in the play, defense made mistakes in order. Now to talk out of both sides, maaaaaann that white boy from Oregon....I thought he crushed the combine and honestly that alone made me rethink "is he worth 19 now?!?!" he's now in the discussion for me, but still below others.    Plus I feel TE is vastly underrated in value terms. But looking at the last 20 years of TEs in the first, its down right bad. You're better like X10 better drafting one in 4th or 5th.
