MVP debate

I keep hearing how Brady is having to deal with makeshift O-lines and a dearth of receivers and this is supposed to bolster his case for MVP. Well the Pats have run 20 different O-line combos. We have run 17. As for receivers (not too sure how much hate this is gonna garner) Gronk>Olesen, LaFell>Ginn/Cotch, and Amendola/Edelman>Philly/Bersin. It seems all the things that Brady gets shine for winning in spit of, Cam has to deal with similar if not more dire situationsm.

tl;dr lets give Cam some damn respect Mr. Media.

Our o-line this year is far superior to theirs. Their receivers are definitely still better as Amendola is better than any of our healthy receivers right now and so is LaFell. And Edelman was even better than both those two before going down and yes Gronk is better than Olsen.  Funchess could change that if he can play as consistently going forward as he has the past couple games, but it'd be premature to say he's better than any WR on their roster right now.

Our O-Line being superior to theirs is tricky because coming into the season, Carolina had the worst or one of the worst ranked units. They outplayed these projections as we can all see that having Oher and his UDFA buddies play on the line isn't such a bad deal.

Coming into the season, New England was ranked in the top 5 overall units. Their O-Line has been ravaged by injuries but I do not feel bad for them one bit given their players should step up like Remmers, Norwell, Oher and Turner have.

Cam has gotten more respect in the past 2 days than ... well ever.

I don't see why people have to consistently feel like we have to downgrade Brady's accomplishments to build up Cams.

If Cam plays like he has the last few weeks throughout the rest of the season, it would be any debate.

Brady has/is played consistently lights out the entire season.  What you see is 2 quarterbacks who have run essentially the same systems for a few years and are excelling.

There are 2 really cool things about it.  First Cam called this saying he is trying to be something the league has never seen, and was ridiculed about it.  Second, this MVP thing is an actual debate.

It's gone like this.  Back on :

Week 2 - Tom Brady is pissed give him the trophy now Patriots undefeated. Oh and the panthers won,  oh well the competition sucked.

Week 4 - It's amazing the Panthers are still winning, but the competition has sucked. They will get a rude awakening in Seattle.

Week 6 - Can't believe Carolina won in Seattle,.. well Cam can be mentioned but we are not really serious.

Week 8 - They have beat Green Bay and Seattle, they are better than we thought.  Cam is definitely second place in the MVP discussion.

Week 10-  S$%$ Carolina is scoring 30 points a game with Ted Ginn Jr as a #1? They have won 14 regular season games in a row?  The offense is top 3 in scoring? WTF.... Cam might actually be an MVP. I mean it's actually debatable.

Week 12 - We have been saying since the beginning of the year Cam Newton is the MVP........

I think here is where the media get it wrong. Brady yes is a better QB but this is MVP not best QB. Cam is the all around better player. They never acknowledge cams rush stats in their arguments. That's one aspect that makes him so unique and they take that away from him. Yes he is a freak and 6'5" 250 but what is he doing with it. Rushing for first downs running over line backers. They take away his all purpose tds and only quote his passing tds. Mention his rushing yards. Then stack Brady against him. It's a land slide favor for Cam for MVP

    • The bad thing is that Xavier Legette kind of ignored the Jugs machine his rookie season. The good thing is that he's committed to it now. Catching is important to an NFL receiver (sarcasm), but, perhaps just as important is a receiver's---any player's---mindset.  "This offseason, the young wideout has gotten back to something in terms of preparation (Jugs machine). 'Oh man, it’s always been something I’ve done, and I don’t know why, but I felt like I could take a little breath,' explained Legette (via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com). 'And when you’re playing in this game, you can never do that. It’s always a way to get better, and that’s one of the ways to help with catching. For sure, for sure. In my mind, I’m thinking about ways, things I can do. What can I do to have less drops this coming season in Year 2? 'The whole mindset has changed, man,' added Legette. 'Trying to do anything I got to. I’m sacrificing a lot of things that I used to do outside of the building to put my work inside the building.'" https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/xavier-legette-focused-on-reducing-drops-that-plagued-rookie-year-with-panthers-01k1692c0tz9 So, yeah, it wasn't good coming in taking some things for granted, but Legette is young. His mentality appears to have changed and he appears to be maturing and he's been putting in a lot of work by all accounts.  I know some of you are down on him, but I still have faith. Last season was a disjointed mess in its entirety, but there were still some flashes, particularly with route running. With Legette's seemingly better fit as the WR2, mindset and focus---doing his actual job catching the ball---he should be able to improve. Lastly, I'd like to add, props to Legette for being so open about the need to improve and change his mindset. Some guys wouldn't necessarily admit that publicly. If nothing else, he's honest and down-to-earth.
    • It is worth noting the fanbase has long held a love hate relationship with PFF over the years. Now that we are employing some of their people and actively using their data in our roster building approach going forward this should serve as the end all be all to any debate. This is either going to end really well or really bad. It's the Panthers. So save your energy and give it some time.
    • And to be honest, we weren't really talking about PFF grades either. I brought it into the conversation via a pic that's LLM-related (which apparently some Huddlers took issue with) as an aside for providing more specificity than just sheer numbers
