Panthers cut long snapper Aiken

I will never understand why we can't teach Kalil or Remmers to long snap.....

There's a reason all 32 teams devote an active roster spot to a dedicated long snapper even with the very limited 46 man limit. Bad snaps lose games. You also don't want your LS to be someone who plays regularly otherwise you risk injury even more and can be forced to use an emergency LS which is very, very bad. There was a Chargers game a couple years ago where their LS got injured and it was a complete disaster. These guys practice snapping full time. They are masters at it. Snapping perfectly 98% of the time gets you cut. Also you want consistency to carry over from the practice field to the game. A regular player can't practice snapping to the holder and punter full time while also doing their positional drills. You could have a PS guy be dedicated for practice but then you switch it up in a game to your normal guy and it can throw off rhythm.

I think with Delaire being healthy & available, the injury to Addison isn't so critical.  After all Delaire was inactive against Dallas, so the net number of DEs playing wouldn't change with Addison out and Delaire in.  You didn't mention Star's injury... but fortunately neither that nor Addison's injury sounds too serious.  We've got Dwan back, which helps.

On Oline, I think the depth of Daryl Williams, Chris Scott and Velasco might be enough.  Daryl got some snaps at RG a week ago, and Ron was really pleased, and Remmers could always slide in to Guard, letting Williams play Tackle, if need be.

So, I do think CB is probably the biggest need if Tillman is going to be out several games.

What do you all think about any of the DBs on our PS:

Lou Young, Marcus Ball, and the new guy Ras I Dowling?  Any of them likely to get called up?

Or what about any of the CBs we cut at the start of the season?  Any of them decent at Nickel or could any of them play outside, leaving Bene to move back to Nickel?

  • DeAndre Presley (Free Agent)
  • Melvin White (Rams Practice Squad)
  • TJ Heath (Falcons Practice Squad)
  • Carrington Byndom (Cardinals Practice Squad)

Remember that players signed off another teams practice squad counts against the 53 for a minimum of three games. Making street guys more attractive for one game replacements. Especially as some team, out of the play off race, might cut an expensive veteran (with baggage or they wouldn't do it of course) that we could pick on waivers and get some help from for the run if we have a spot open.

They don't count against the 53 man roster for 3 games. They can be released and replaced whenever.

Now they are guaranteed to get 3 game checks which would be an extra ~$50k on the salary cap if let go after one game which really isn't that big of a deterrence unless you're like the Saints.

Thats pretty easy to confuse.

No surprise there. Easy $25k for him so I'm sure he's fine. Question now is do we sign one of the CB's we worked out since Peanut is expected to be out a couple weeks or do we sign another G/T to replace Amini.

Amino was finally starting to pay off after being useless due to injuries since he was drafted.

Maybd we need to sing a different tune about Amini?

Regardless, we need some more Gettlemagic.

Awesome job keeping up with movement at the bottom of the roster---very important to this team's development.  I would love to go back and see the "Superb owl" comments after we signed Norwell, Remmers, Coleman, etc.

Yeah but I say that to everything.

"New Star Wars trailer!"

superb Owl?

I would love to re-sign Amini next year. He's fantastic for a backup and average as a starter. Unfortunately I just don't think we will be able to afford him. OL play in the NFL is pretty garbage in general and some team will likely overpay for an average starter which we can't match for him to be a backup. The ACL and injury history might scare teams off though so there's a small chance he returns in my opinion.

No, you are the one that got it confused. They count for three games, it is not just paychecks.
