If anyone played worse than Jake....it would have to be

the offensive line.

Very little to no push on running plays, penalties, and terrible pass protection. Could not pick up on the blitzes, I didn't think any one of the sacks were a coverage sack. Jake played horrible, but the o-line did nothing to help him, D-Will or Stewart out. Even out only TD was bad blocking turned good run. We couldnt even punch it in at the end of the game.

On another note, defensively, it appears on defense we are having more trouble with off tackle runs more than runs directly up the middle.

I'm not saying they played well, because they didn't. But on many occasions, you can't blame them. Blame Jeff Davidson. He did nothing to account for the continuous blitz. Pretty damn sad for a guy that was an O-line coach for years before coming to the Panthers and becoming coordinator.

You better believe that Atlanta is going to bring the pressure early on Sunday.

This.

Though I think they played about as well as could be expected... perhaps somewhat disappointing and not up to par but I do not think that the OL was so terrible that they would've lost us the game if not for other significant factors.

#1 rule for managing a game: Protect the Ball.

He eyes down Smith when he's in trouble. That's worked in the past, but now teams are sending zone blitzes with a lot of the zone clouds in smith's area. Easy INT = Easy INT. A lot of his throws were just plain old bad decisions. There was no quick passing game either. Everytime he took a sack it was a 10 yard loss. Who the fug takes a 5-7 step drop against one of the most notorious blitzing teams in the NFL. And again, he went into Panic Mode way too early and tried to score 2 touchdowns on one play. This was ALL in the first half. If you think the Offensive Line is to blame now, then think again, it's just his intangibles no longer having an effect over his low potent measurables.

Sadly true. The offensive line was terrible. No answers for the Eagles blitzes at all :(

But, who could have foreseen this? Eagles creating pressure with the blitz.. how is this not in any game film between 1999-2009? Surely this must be some new strategy they are employing here.

They played pretty freakn terrible. I could spin it like this, Jake would not have lost the game for us had our defense caused 7 turnovers and scored on them. Jake made bad passes, in fact two of his ints there was not as much pressure, but throughout the game, our O-Line was garbage. Jake played worst, but if he had a challenger for that title, I would give it to the line.

OK so whats your explanation for the run game, or lack thereof? Oh, this thread was not created to defend Jake either, just point out another aspect of patheticness.

Yes and no.

Jim Johnson's MO and blitz packages are well known and well scouted.

Sean McDermott went more aggressive than I've even seen Johnson go. Johnson had certain situations he preferred to blitz in. McDermott? Anytime, anywhere.

That approach could get him in trouble down the road, but it worked yesterday.

after that 1st drive the eagles knew what we were going to do.....when we ran they had 9 in the box and passing downs they sent at most 9 people. ol did not have a stellar game but they didnt suck the place up.6 people can't block 8 or 9 defenders blitzing.when our qbs had the time, they threw horrible passes. so no one played worse than jd.

people knew there would be similarities but what wasn't known is if he would be more aggressive with the blitz or less.

makes sense that a young guy trying to make a statement that he is the man now would do that against a team that is supposed to have one of the best Olines and best offenses in the league.

imo, they need to go bring in an assistant DC/consultant who has a lot of experience in a 3-4 or at least a blitz happy team to help the Oline's preparation.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
