Panthers have a 7 game lead in the NFC South.  (That number REALLY doesn’t seem possible!)

With the win against Atlanta, the Cam & the Panthers now have a winning record against all of our division rivals since the Cam/Rivera era began in 2011:

Against Tampa:  7-2  (2 of those wins with DA as QB last year)

Against New Orleans:  6-4

Against Atlanta:  5-4

Earlier today in both the thread about the possibility of taking over the #1 ranking for points on offense, and the Atlanta gameday thread, I posted a table showing how offensive & defensive rankings over the years:

Only twice in twenty seasons prior to this year have we ever had our offense in the top 5 in terms of scoring, at the end of the year rankings.  Who could have imagined with KB sidelined this season that we would be contending for the #1 offense in the league?!?!  It's pretty shocking & wonderful!

There was a pretty surprising comparison of Ted Ginn's stats and some other famous Panthers' receivers in a thread posted by SamMillsFan:

Quote

Ted Ginn now has 8 receiving touchdowns on the season.

Times that a Panther has had 8 or more receiving touchdowns in a season:

Steve Smith (twice)

Muhsin Muhammad (twice)

Kelvin Benjamin (once)

Patrick Jeffers (once)

Wesley Walls (twice)

That is ELITE territory. Steve Smith hasn't caught 8 or more in a season since 2006. That's the kind of heights Cam Newton is taking TED GINN JR to. Mentioning him in the same breath as Smitty. And he still has 3 games to pad his stats further.

BBR hasn't done a stats & superlatives entry (yet), but a few stats from their "Rapid Reaction" article:

http://blackandbluereview.com/rapid-reactions-falcons-at-panthers/

–The Panthers posted their first shutout since an identical 38-0 score against the Giants on Sept. 22, 2013.

–The Panthers have scored 20 points in all 13 games. The previous team record for consec nine in a row at start of '09

–The Panthers' 260 yards in the first quarter were the most in a quarter in team history.

–The Panthers improved to 17-3 in December since 2011, matching Seattle for the best record in the month during that timeframe.

What is the largest margin of victory(in terms of number of games) a team has ever won a division by? Also what is our overall records vs our division opponents all time now?

Im not sure about your first question.  I know the pats won the afc east by 9 games when they went undefeated in 07.  Thats my educated guess.

Records vs division opponents are now

Atl 17-24

No 23-19

Tb 19-11

In case it's of interest, here's a quick graph of the average points per game figures for each week for the Panthers plus 5 other of the teams that are in the top 10 in points and who are likely to be in the playoffs.

GOTTA LOVE THE PANTHERS' TREND!

The 38 point margin ties our largest margin of victory ever.  We also had the same margin of victory in 2013 against the giants (also 38-0).  In that game, we were 0-2 and rivera was rumored to be fired if we lost going into the bye.

The rest is history.  Counting that game, we are 33-12-1 since then (counting playoffs).

Copied from @MotherGrabber sig.  Interesting to me that if we can win our last 3 regular season games, we will be at 500 again for the first time since october 4, 1998, when we were 27-27 as a franchise.  That is 6280 days.

  • 171-174-1 overall (including 7-6 in the playoffs)
  • 0.493 winning percentage, and 3 games below .500 as a franchise
  • 46-33-1 with RR and Cam (including 1-2 in the playoffs)
  • 0.57 winning percentage, and 13 games above .500 under RR and Cam
  • 27 wins until RR is Panthers winningest HC
