ESPN Stats & Information

Add a bunch more accolades to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s list of accomplishments in 2015.

The Elias Sports Bureau notes that Newton is the first player to have at least 340 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the same game, and is also the first to have five touchdown passes and 100 rushing yards in the same game. It's the third time this season that he has thrown five touchdown passes, which (with Elias' research) puts him on this notable list.

ESPN Stats & Information

Newton now has five seasons with at least 3,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards. That’s the most in NFL history.

Newton became the fourth different quarterback to win at least 17 straight regular-season starts in the Super Bowl era. Elias notes that the other three arePeyton Manning (23, 2008-2009 and 17, 2012-2013), Tom Brady (21, 2006-2008 and 18, 2003-2004) and Jim McMahon (22, 1984-1987).

The 100 rushing yards elevated Newton from 16th all-time in rushing yards by a quarterback to 13th, passing Tuffy Leemans, Tobin Rote and Bill Dudley (Rote was the last of those three to be active -- he last played in 1966). The next two quarterbacks in front of Newton, who now has 3,151 rushing yards, are John Elway (3,407) and Donovan McNabb (3,459).

Newton has now thrown 19 touchdowns, rushed for two touchdowns and thrown only one interception in his past six games.

Yeah, it's a done deal after yesterday. Many thought the Giants would beat the Panthers yesterday. Even though the game ending up being close, it really shouldn't have. The defense, who many were giving credit for the undefeated run, allowed a late game push to tie the game with less than 2 minutes left. Cam willed another win, in what should have been another blow out. There is no question now, who is the real catalyst for the undefeated run. Cam is the league MVP.

And for those clamoring for Brady... what happened when Gronk was hurt for one game? I think the Eagles marched right over them. The Eagles, that just got steam rolled by the Cardinals and Palmer.

The thing for me is, he is doing things historically that have never been seen or done before.  Now, from day one, he has been a revolutionary talent and set records, but the wins and team success typically held him back from consideration.

Combine the mounting individual accomplishments and achievements with the historic team success we are currently enjoying and there is no doubt in my mind, Cam locked up the MVP weeks ago...  yesterday just cemented that in the national scope, or at least it should have.

If Cam doesn't win the MVP, especially at the expense of a previous, but less deserving winner, it should be a crime.
