So where does Carolina finish next year?

Everyone keeps acting like we are promised something next year.

We are not. That is what makes losing in the SB so horrible.

Nothing is promised. See, the team whose stadium we played in today.

For all we know, next year Drew Brees gets a defense and NO wins, or Lovie Smith (I doubt it) was really holding the Bucs back and they win the division, or Vic Beasley turns into a monster and Jones turns into prime Jerry Rice/Moss and Atlanta wins.

Nothing is promised to you, and that is what will hurt the most.

EDIT: Oh, and it is also possible that one of our key player goes down with a major season-ending injury and we fall apart unlike this season.

That is a possibility too.

Would you rather we say 8-8 at home for the playoffs?  Jesus what is wrong with being optimistic?  I mean it's not like other team's haven't gone to back to back Super Bowls.  And our window just opened.

So in other words we're the San Francisco 49ers all over again?

Sure as poo is possible.  So much is the playoffs is up to chance.  Honestly, how many times in the last ten years has the best team won?  Seahawks in '13.  Who else?

The difference between us and the 49ers though is that Cam is no clown that is gonna disappear.  We will always contend with him.  That being said, if playing the odds, us losing in the NFCCG is a good bet.

No, there is nothing wrong with being optimistic. And of course we could be back next year...

But unfortunately history is littered with teams who haven't.

Just would have loved for us to seize this unexpected moment and win one.

    • As a Penn State alum I was excited to see everyone return, truth is I think we came into the year a bit over confident coming off last season. Had a slow start and poor depth at LB once Rojas went down, and once Franklin was fired the season was essentially over. From a character perspective DDS is a 10/10 guy, hardworking and incredibly loyal. Nobody expected him to return for his senior year, but he did to try win us a Natty. He also played the entire bowl game this year against Clemson which is rare to see as a high end senior prospect.
    • Both of New England's TDs were scored when Maye went into "wing it and fling it" mode. As Deac said, when he did run, he ran well.  And, while some of the criticism of Sam Darnold may be warranted, Super Bowl history is littered with QBs who didn't light up the scoreboard but still came away with championships. Matter of fact, ever seen the list of Super Bowl winning QBs who didn't even throw a TD pass? Namath SB3, Griese SB8, McMahon SB20, Aikman SB28, Elway SB32, Roethlisberger SB40, Peyton Manning SB 50, Brady SB53.
    • Nope. Don't do that. We need an infusion of talent, not going all in one prospect. Especially a pass rusher. We already drafted two in the 2nd last year and they usually take 2-3 years of development. We should honestly try to add an impact vet there in free agent and focus elsewhere in the draft. We don't need more young developmental talent there. We have that. We need someone who can step in and add an impact day one.
