Pre Free-Agency NFL News

Jags signing Jackson was a good move because it filled a big need, but shelling out $6 million plus on Chris Ivory? I'm not convinced that is a move they needed to make since they already have a young RB who flashed feature back ability in Yeldon, now it's another committee for them, an expensive one at that when they could have drafted a power back in the draft for far cheaper.

Like what the Raiders have done by bringing in Irvin. Adds another quality player to their front seven. Him at SLB, Malcom Smith at WLB, with a D-Line featuring Khalil Mack, Mario Edwards, Dan Williams and possibly Aldon Smith should make them a pretty good defensive team.

Granted it's a lot of money, but they have a ton of cash to spend and need to add veterans like this to their young core they have drafted over the past few seasons. This could make them a wild card team next season, or maybe a AFC West champion.

Interesting discovery....

So, I was playing around with that PFF Free Agent tracking table I linked a little earlier (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/01/11/pro-2016-free-agency-tracker/)

I sorted it by current status (e.g. CUT, UFA, RFA, Franchised.... OR the name of the team the FA has signed with.)

We've so far signed 5 free agents - all our own guys.   CJ, Scott, Hill, Jansen, Webb. [And of course we've also tendered Remmers and tagged Josh]

That looks to be the most by any team in the NFL.  I see several teams who've signed 4 FAs - either their own, and/or other teams' cuts, but at the moment, we lead with 5.

Keep that in mind when you're tempted to bemoan any lack of early activity in Free Agency by Gettleman.  He believes in keeping and signing the guys who know our system.  It seems to be working....

Former Rams DE Chris Long, who visited Washington this week, scheduled to visit the Cowboys, per source.

NFL League source tells me Alex Mack is giving serious consideration to join the #Falcons - Very strong potential

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins are re-signing ILB Mason Foster to a contract.
