@TheWiz has already given a nice llve recap of parts of Cam's interview today on WFNZ

But here are the links for those who want to listen to the full thing themselves.

Here's a 28 minute stand-alone segment:  http://wfnz.com/2016/06/09/cam-newton-talks-super-bowl-panthers-fans-and-dab-retirement/

This includes exceprts of both part 1 & part 2 of his interview.

Update:  DB coach Steve Wilks was also on WFNZ this morning.  See the next comment for the time stamp & details.

A few highlights:

  • Cam calls Dave "the GodFather of the draft"!!!  Love it.  Calls the rookie corners "Bright, smart, athletic, Carolina Panther guys.... you can't always say that about every draft pick"

  • His goals:  "Each week I want to be 1-0, starting with Sept. 8th"

  • The power of team is always greater than the power of talent.

There are also two other longer (41 minute links) for hours two and three of the show.

Cam Part 1:

Cam Part 2:  (Part 2 also includes an interview with DB coach Steve Wilks)

In a few minutes, I'll post an update with the timestamps for the full Cam interview, and the Steve Wilks interview.

Having listened to the various podcasts, I think the 28 minute stand-alone link I posted above gives you the entire Cam interview, so that's probably the best link to use,  but here are the timestamp details from the longer show segments:

Cam Part 1:  BEGINS at 28:00 minutes and continues to the end of the segment.

Steve Wilks & Cam Part 2:

http://wfnz.com/2016/06/09/mac-attack-steve-wilks-and-cam-newton-part-2/

Steve Wilks:  begins at 5:45 -  20:20

here are some highlights

  • What's it like coaching in your home town?  It's a little surreal.  Can't wait to bring a championship to CLT.
  • What's it like to have to coach 3 rookies.  Do you like having such a challenge?   He looks forward to it.  Look at what we've done over the years.  There's been a revolving door... there was one year we didn't draft anyone.... so getting the chance to develop guys is nice.  Pressure, there's no pressure.
  • Bradberry:  very mature.  quiet.  smart player.  locked in and focused in meetings and on field.  Already see improvement.  Love his competitive nature.  He's physical.  Can run.  good man-to-man skills at line of scrimmage.
  • Seeing improvement of all the guys.  Worley had a red-zone interception on Cam yesterday.
  • What about Nickel?  Colin, Shaq (big Nickel), Sanchez, Bene, are all in the mix.  It will depend on the package scheme / situation.   Sounds like Bene will be getting a lot of inside reps once he's fully cleared.
  • Talks about Shaq's role.  Got to find ways to get him on the field a lot more... We need to be smart as coaches game to game, based on the scheme and who we're playing.
  • We wanted Josh back, but excited for the opportunity he has.  What a great contract for him.   Expects him to continue to play well in Washington.  Yes, he benefited from our system, but he's a great player, can flourish outside the system too.
  • Re: safeties:  right now Tre Boston & Kurt Coleman are getting the most reps with the 1s "but lots can change in training camp."

Part 2 of Cam begins just after 27:00

important to mention that Wilks mentioned on a couple occasions that Panthers might do a little more man-to-man this year versus previous years. talked about the man-to-man abilities of the rookie corners.
