On The Set: Breaking Down Butler

New video from the Panthers media team talking about our 1st round draft pick. It seems like the strengths they talk about are at odds with reports of his training camp performance on this site, especially hand placement and keeping a low center of gravity. Any further insight from those attending? I was hoping he would show out better so far, but I'm sure our coaches will turn him into a beast sooner or later.

This kid will be a player. He just needs reps and coaching.

He's been getting beat so far because of the learning curve, they've only had 3 days in pads. i have no doubt that this kid will be a bad a$$ this season!

Gotta remember these people work for the Panthers so they are inherently bias towards the players and more than likely see all them on a weekly basis.

Hot takes from people working for the Observer and the CH Archon are not paid by the Panthers and their job is to give an honest, unbiased assessment. Although there is still some inherent bias, I think Jeremy does a great job of telling it how it is while always shining a positive light on the Panthers.

OK, they work for the Panthers. What are they wrong about though? There is no doubt that Butler has the tangibles, as they say in the video. It's only a matter of time before he starts making plays.

As I recall Star didn't look too hot his rookie year of Training Camp either but I remember the immediate impact he made. The first game against Seattle in the very first series Star absolutely blew up the center and put pressure on Wilson, he was a disruptive force that entire game.

So until I see Butler in action against the competition I take what he does in Training Camp with a grain of salt. He's a rookie so he will flash and he will make mistakes but I expect him to be a absolute monster

    • We don't have to tear down Dak to appreciate what Bryce did yesterday. Dak had 0 running game. If the cowboys were better, he'd be a legit MVP candidate if he keeps playing this way.  They did it with Ceedee last year, but they do a better job of anybody we play consistently of getting their best receiver off Jaycee.  Bryce was good too. If we just catch the ball that was intercepted, we probably win by 7+, and Bryce goes over 200 yards passing.  Biggest shift the last few weeks has been play calling. I thought Canales abandoned the run game way to early at times last year. This year he really seems to be sticking with it.  I still think Chuba is better at making 4 yards when there's nothing there, but Rico is better at making 30 yards when there's 6 there. I like the direction. Hopefully we can get Moton, Sanders and Coker back and really be dangerous. Our play action game is pretty deadly right now.  Unrelated: My favorite quality about Bryce right now is his ability to see the defensive hold and throw the ball there. He EXPOSES the officials when they don't call it. That one on Tetaroia yesterday late in the game was a bad miss on their part.
    • That sacks allowed number lookin juicy!
    • This is a game the Panthers should win... just the sort of game they lose. The Panthers have a bad habit that goes back years of playing down to the competition's level only to mess around and lose the game. The Jets game should be taken very seriously! But I want to enjoy the fact that they beat the Cowboys for at least another day or so!
