The implications of season opener.

PhilliB's thread made me think about the Superbowl, and I didn't want to think about the Superbowl at all. But now that I do, might as well ask this question.

Out of curiosity and obviously only assuming we come out with a victory in week one, by how many points would you accept a decent enough victory to finally put a lid on that trash bag of a game known as SB50? At least this way we can finally move it into the storage and bury it with victories. While we will never really get rid of its smell, we could at least get it out of plain sight. Therefore, if we do beat Denver by at least 2 scores, I think I would probably let SB50 memories/outcome become irrelevant. A close victory would be just as good but unsatisfying. A loss... well, it wouldn't make things any better. It can expose weaknesses for opponents to exploit, as PhillyB accurately described in his thread. However, it is still possible to have a quick reset after going 0-1 and come out swinging in first quarter of the season to establish dominance.

This game immediately became far more important than it originally and/or normally is. But I truly think it's highly realistic we can come out with a two-score margin over Denver. Thoughts?

I haven't even watched the SB yet.  I listened to it while on the road and that was painful enough.  I just hope we win.

On the road during Super Bowl Sunday?

I understand the pride in defeating the Broncos, however I don't think it will lessen the morale of this team if we lost.  I see a very strong core of players that wouldn't let any defeat deflate this teams values.  The Broncos we play in September is not the same Broncos we played in the SB.  I'm cheering for an undefeated season.  I'm not cashing in the chips because of one or several losses this season.

A victory against the Broncos won't erase how much losing SB50 sucked, but I'll be watching the game with a friend who is a Broncos fan. So if Carolina mud-stomps them in the opening game, it will at least give me some satisfaction and redemption from all of the s*** talking I heard from him after the SB.

    • The people who aren’t doomers have seen progress and are hoping he will continue to progress and become a consistently great quarterback. No one is saying this is the finished product and has played well all year.
    • I'm glad someone involved in the process here is manning up and saying the quiet stuff out loud. "I think Pete's [ND athletic director], his behavior has been egregious," Yormark said. "It's been egregious going after Jim Phillips, when they saved Notre Dame during COVID. ... The chair said that as Notre Dame and Miami got closer together, head-to-head would be a factor, OK?" https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/47261132/big-12-brett-yormark-calls-notre-dame-pete-bevacqua Just more absolute cuck bullshit from the ACC though. You need another conference commissioner to step in and say what you should be saying while you continue to kowtow to ND and create excuses for them like a battered spouse? GTFOH... with the "oh he loves me, he won't do it again" ass bullshit while you're sitting there with a black eye and a lump upside your head while he's strutting around saying "yeah, she learned her lesson this time she won't be trying me again like that". The quicker this ends in an divorce the better off the kids will be for it.
