Are we officially free of all of Huney's contracts?

Remind me....why is it that you have GMan so much?

I don't hate him. I know it comes across that way, but I don't. I think he's full of himself, I don't think he's as good as most here believe. I think he's made some awful mistakes like releasing Steve Smith(who proved he could still play and help a team win) releasing Josh Norman(who was a home grown product) and I think just like the Steve Smith decision, the Josh Norman mistake will be masked by the greatness of Cam and Luke neither of which he drafted.

The short answer is I believe he gets too much credit and Marty too much blame. I called my wife happy the day he got fired because he deserved to be fired. I see him on one side of the extreme and Dave on the other side of that extreme with the ideal GM somewhere in the middle.

I applaud some of the moves he's made but he's been afforded the benefit of having such a strong foundation to build on. People here act like he does no wrong and when he makes a decision that people don't agree with its "trust Gettleman" when it's really trust Cam and Luke will cover his ass on the field.

Not really Hurney was a bad GM but not because of how he drafted

Hurney drafted well in the first round. After that, to call it "hit or miss" would be a compliment.

And the trading away of future picks for guys like Armanti Edwards and Everette Brown (plus almost Jimmy Clausen) ugh!

An NFL GM builds a roster of 53 players, not 8.

Hurney's 53 man rosters got us 3 playoff appearances in 11 years. Gettleman has matched that, including the Super Bowl, in his first 3 seasons.

Another winning season this year and we'll have our first back to back years plus he'll surpass Hurney's playoff tally with 7 years left to go.

Any argument that Hurney was a better GM is ridiculous to the point of absolute stupidity.

Yet you will never find anything stating I said he was a better GM

The "strong foundation" had consecutive losing seasons before Gettleman took over.

They need to set a new rule in the NFL that whenever a new gm is hired, they have to rebuild the entire team from scratch.

Get over yourself. Gettleman >>>> hurney

And you like most here miss the point, I challenge you in anybody else here to find one post in my history where I state Hurney is a better GM.

Igo needs to set up a subsection called Hurney's heroes where ace and cpk and his alt can go bash gettleman while they worship an effigy of marty

Again nobody is worshiping Hurney, you guys are so simple minded sometimes it's like you think you have to like one or the other. Gettleman has been successful largely because of what he inherited in Cam, Luke, and others. Does that mean I'd rather have hurney? No

someone disagreeing with your hot takes doesn't make them a sheep

What I mean is that I'm not afraid to go against what is popular opinion. A lot of people here that don't know me think I'm not a real fan because I disagree at times with the management of this team. I'm not afraid of being attacked, in fact I welcome it. I love the discussion and I love this team and I'm going to speak my mind like I encourage anyone to do that disagrees with me.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
