Cutting Bene is surprising, but not unprecedented

Its a Gm's job to maximize a move or get the most you can out of a player. Lately the cuts have seen reactionary and emotional. These guys were starters on a super bowl team. You cant tell me no team in the league had no interest.

That's exactly what I'm saying.  If you're talking about Norman he'll net a 3rd rounder so there will be a return on that.

This reminds me of cutting Avant too. He was cut for criticizing the play calling. There's no doubt in my mind there is more to this than just cutting Bene for poor performance. He probably talked some poo to the coaching staff after having a bad game. They were pissed at him for lack of effort and poor performance, he said some stuff, they cut him to make an example out of him. They could have just benched him.

Def more to this story. He probably ruffled some feathers. Given the fact that we are very thin at DB tobegin with, you'd think they'd bench him, seek a trade or something.

I say this with uncertainty, but to cut a starter the Friday before you play primetime Monday versus two very big experienced receivers and replace with a rookie corner, what kind of message are you sending?  One of the favorite aspects of the Panthers organization is the comradery  this team has developed over the past few years.  With the "Keep Pounding" slogan and the locker room guys who have been more of pieces of the "family" than the Team; fozzy, Tolbert, bersin, etc.  These guys possibly could contribute to another organization but even playing "poorly" you get the sense "Ah that's just Bersin we love him, he went to Wofford we got to keep him" sorta thing than possibly signing a free agent not from "Wal-Mart."

My only concern with all the cuts, waives, activating from practice squad to then be released cleared and then placed back on the practice squad makes me think that Gettleman may be second guessing his moves.  We have had a glaring need for a number 1 Left Tackle since Gross retired.  Gettleman has drafted only 1 mid rounder tackle who is now struggling and signed everyones leftovers.  Oher and Remmers would be backups at 90% of the other teams.  We have glaring needs that we have to address.  Corner is obviously one of them.

My 2 cents.

The weird thing is they waited until Friday to do it. He took up practice reps with the first string all week. That sucks for his replacement.

Sucks for Bene too. Either that's some cold blooded sh1t or there is more to this story. I am thinking this was an impulsive emotional decision. If he was taking practice reps all week, then he was definitely part of the gameplan against the bucs. Something specific happened that caused this decision
