Oher, when healthy, was a damn good pass blocking tackle. Remmers was a serviceable starter. Not a world beater, and SIGNIFICANTLY better than Byron Bell ever was.

What killed us last year was injuries. We had 4th and 5th stringers across the line last year at some points, not just backups. We had the backups to the backups to the backups out there.

So I can only blame the FO so much for Cam's injury, especially when it happened on a pick that Newton threw when KB gave up on a route and then didn't even attempt to tackle the guy that jumped his route. If you should blame anyone for his injury, blame KB for half assing it out there. Don't blame Rivera or Gettleman for not having an all-pro 3rd stringer to play on the line.

I can understand the frustration and lack of depth in the secondary, but the O-line was just really bad luck.

I didn't say I had issue with Oher at LT before his concussion. Someone else brought him up. But he obviously does not need to be relied on in future plans moving forward at RT.

As for Remmers, ehhhh, better than Bell? The fact that we even have to compare them at all to make ourselves feel better should say enough. We should have cut our losses after witnessing his performance in SB50.

Our OL was letting Newton get demolished in the season opener before all the injuries. So that excuse means nothing to me.

And I disagree. You don't cut a guy because the best pass rusher in the league ate his lunch in the super bowl. Remmers is a below average to average RT in the league. Not everyone on the team is going to be a pro bowler at every position. Shula's game plan in the super bowl also did him no favors by putting him on an island against Miller all game long.

And counter point - Our line wasn't letting Cam get killed in the opener, the REFS let it happen. There were some blatant cheap shots that they just ignored that I can't completely blame the line for.

I've got nothing against Remmers, I like him, but I will never agree with any notion that he should have been a starter for us in the 2016 season. We could have upgraded, and we should have upgraded. I agree Shula has been an issue, but to me that is a separate discussion from this.

Of course there were cheap shots, but Newton was getting pressured and harassed pretty much every time he dropped back.

Man no offense to you, but I am so sick of Panthers fans trying so hard to convince themselves that mediocrity is okay or using bizarre rationalizations to make themselves feel better about losing. Enough of that poo.

I take no offense, it's just we managed a 15-1 season with the guy on the right side so I don't think he was the end all to be all reason the line imploded last year. He was solid in 2015, then he got switched to the left side where he is obviously not that great for pretty much the entirety of 2016. I'm not sure who was available that would have been an upgrade at a reasonable price at RT last year which is why I was fine with rolling out Remmers from the get go.

At the absolute very least we should have brought in competition for his job as a starter.

We found a guy like Norwell, basic due diligence could have paid off again for us.

I'm still definitely concerned about the OL. WR, and TE2 don't exactly instill a load of confidence either if we're taking off the homer shades. We still need to improve. Especially with a QB that will be recovering.

We had Williams who by all accounts in the offseason was supposed to supplant Remmers but just didn't beat him out. Then he came in and played serviceable himself.

I do agree with you about the depth at the other positions though. WR, not so much just because I have a feeling this is the year they turn it around, but OL we need better alternatives at OT if someone goes down. TE, Dickson isn't great, Howard is my draft pick of choice in the first. Immediate upgrade in my opinion there, and would open up the playbook for two TE sets that would be beneficially for Cam, the running game, and the WRs.

If we draft Howard I will cream my pants.

I can't ever recall a doctor coming out after a surgery and saying, "Damn, man... I botched the fug outta that one." They're all a success according to the surgeon.

I loled but let's just be thankful there were no complications. Anytime you go under anesthesia there is always a risk.

Ironically, here we have a perfect example of how a routine relatively minor surgical procedure can go badly wrong.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/30/report-sharrif-floyd-knee-injury-could-be-career-ending/

"Tom Pelissero of USA Todayreports that Floyd suffered nerve damage when he had surgery in September to repair a torn meniscus, and the injury is putting his career in jeopardy."

And, oh look...

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2016/09/23/vikings-release-statements-on-matt-kalil-sharrif-floyd-surgeries/

"Both Minnesota Vikings’ offensive tackle Matt Kalil and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd have undergone successful surgeries this week."

Wow. That one was done by Dr. James Andrews. Isn't he like THE go-to knee guy?
