I think it's less about the success of a few players and more about the league wide use of cover 3 with smaller Lbs.

Well, I think its clear that its both since the TE's KB mentions are the large, mobile, athletic TE's that are perfect to take advantage of that mismatch.

Anyone remember where Olsen was drafted?

And we want to take this guy at 8?

I am just a bit disappointed that there are not more big time talents at the top of this years draft.

There is Garrett, and then there is a mile and a half distance down to the next tier of guys

Ah, Garrett...he's the guy that was blocked 1-on-1 by Howard.

Still think there is a mile and a half distance to those below him?

NFLN's Path to the Draft just did a piece on Howard.  Im starting 5o think he will be the pick.  He said he models himself after Greg Olsen, loves Greg's playmaking ability in the passing game and his ability as a run blocker.  Also said he embraces being a leader - likes doing the right thing when no one is looking.  Sounds like he loves the game...  ANNNNND, then they cut back to the studio and said funny enough that he mentioned Olsen, bc the team he has been most linked with on Twitter is the Panthers.

They also brought on their stats person (Cynthia Frelund?), who compared Howard with the TE from Miami that we've been linked to, and said Howard is the better prospect because his drop percentage was around 3, which is considered elite, whereas the other guy whose name I wont attempt to spell was in the teens, IIRC, which she said was average.

The Miami TE did have a lot more potential as a YAC guy, but again, his consistency in receiving was average with a higher drop percentage.

Adams is still ahead of Howard.

Not for the Panthers its either OJ Howard or Fournette

    • That's true. I did actually mean the FO but that's a fair point.
    • A guy like Jones at average pay is going to not work out IMO. The 20 million difference to spend elsewhere is too large of a hurdle when the QB plays good but not carry the team good. They are in the sweet spot currently at cost to value with him. Darnold is pretty much the same. Good in a limited role but lean on him and he will fold. Tua didn't beat good teams when it had to be on his back to be the difference, and that was true when his team was stacked. All of Murray's talent has resulted in 1 winning season for them and 1 wildcard loss. The NFL has an overpaying mediocre QB issue. At the right price it's not an issue but can be a positive. It inevitably leads to a worse roster which becomes a poo show. NY gave up their RB because they paid Jones and proved that. The first is most likely leading to the second. Baker is bucking that trend but he was always the best of any of that group, even if his time here was pretty much the worst setup possible.
    • If you only factor passing, there is a VERY mild argument Dalton is more efficient but it's ignoring the threat Cam was as a big play literally every snap. With his feet OR through the air. Dalton was never that type of player. I would say Dalton over 200 is a very safe bet.
