Official countdown to Cowher Thread...

He made the playoffs 9 times without Big Ben and twice with him.

Yeah he did, and that's fine, but he was also in a shitty division for a lot of those years and got his ass kicked regularly in the play offs except for two of his 15 seasons and got beaten pretty soundly in his first Super Bowl appearance. Everybody seems to be forgetting that little tidbit.

Anyway, I just hope Jerry Richardson don't just fire Fox and jump on Cowher because that's what most fans want. I hope he is very careful about picking Fox's replacement. We are not Pittsburgh and we don't have the players in place to run a 3-4 defense, so if you think Cowher is gonna win instantly in Charlotte, you're mistaken.

If Cowher Does Come to the panthers (Which I doubt he will, because Dallas) I think him bringing the 3-4 will 1) light a fire under Peppers ass to stay and be effective with moving him around and not just keeping him in one place all game.Use his Speed and Size to a Advantage 2) With players like Beason and Davis and Harris blitzing more that should cause all kinds of havok 3) and maybe he'll actually address the most important Position on the Field A fuging QUATERBACK! Fox, Marty & Jake had a good run but fans and managment can't live in past time to move foward. And maybe he can teach the players how to tackle.

I dont care if its Cowher, or some other HC. I do remember when the Steelers were having that strech when the fans were calling for Cowher's head I thought that would be a mistake cause those teams were still playing hard, not getting blown out and still played tough - it was just a rough stretch. They kept Cowher and the Steelers went back to a good consistent run. I dont see that happening here cause A) Fox has never had a good run for more than a season and B) Even in some of the good seasons we saw many of the same issues as this one. So.............. all that being said I think it might be time for change. If is Cowher I am on board, somebody else so be it, because I am tired of the this brand of football. The John Fox era is over, and it should be. Who the next HC is I will leave that up to the people who's job it is to find the right person. If its Cowher I hope its because he is the right fit and not just because the fans might want that.

One thing I DO NOT want is to hire a coach with some hope that Peppers will be happy, want to stay and blah blahb blah...... this franchise needs to move on from Peppers not matter what. That era is over.

Cowher says thanks but no thanks; holding out for Carolina?

The Bills in-season coaching search took another turn tonight, this time in the wrong direction, as former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher rebuffed Buffalo owner Ralph Wilson and his overtures to bring Cowher in for an interview with the club.

This comes on the heels of reports that indicated a push by the Bills to bring in former Denver head coach Mike Shanahan, along with several intriguing rumors surrounding Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis and a potential fit for him in Buffalo. For the time being, the Bills are remaining tight lipped on their search, but given all the leaks springing up across the board, there’s no doubt that something big is afoot in western New York.

Cowher has repeatedly declined offers to return to the NFL as a head coach, preferring instead to focus on his family and his position with CBS’ The NFL Today on Sunday afternoon. That said, those close to the coach have said that that the desire to coach again still burns deep within Cowher, and it’s simply a matter of him wanting to find the best opportunity possible for himself and his family.

One such locale would be Carolina, as Panthers head coach John Fox certainly isn’t out of the woods as of yet in terms of retaining his job. If he is removed from the position, you can bet that the first person to be called will be Cowher, who holds strong ties to the area with his permanent home being located reasonably close to Charlotte in Raleigh, NC.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when more news breaks…

if you want to see who a candidate for a new HC will be..look at the best Defense in the NFL...more than likey we will pick a coordinatator from there

i'd rather have the best OC. i think we'd be better off. that is what needs to be revamped and let meeks continue for a season or two with what he has started this season.

    • I’ve haven’t seen anything that says we have interest in Njoku?
    • I think the Njoku interest revealed intent and the type of TE they want.  I really expected more from Sanders.
    • Defensive tackle (or end in a 3-4 base) is suddenly a rather significant need.  It seems to be a forbidden topic on the Huddle.  Well I am going to unforbidden it for this thread. When we lost Robinson, it was a salary cap cutting move, saving us about $9m or so, I think.  That suggests that we are going to get cheaper, younger, and maybe, more multi-dimensional.  First, what did we lose in Robinson: (Charlotte Observer)  "Robinson co-led the team in sacks (5.5) in 2024, and he ranked second among Carolina linemen, behind Brown, in sacks (2.5) in 2025. (Derrick) Brown played on 76.4% of the Panthers’ defensive snaps last year, while Robinson played on 62.2% of those reps. No other defensive lineman played more than 38.3%, as free-agent addition, Turk Wharton, dealt with injuries throughout his first season in Carolina. Wharton played in just nine games, producing 36 total tackles and two sacks. He’s guaranteed $14 million this upcoming season. Read more at: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article314544998.html#storylink=cpy OK, about Turk Wharton.  The Observer claims that he and Bobby Brown III were to rotate into the Robinson DE position, but that is too weird for my head to comprehend.  First, Brown III is a NT by trade and Wharton weighs about 280 lbs and is not stout vs. the run.  Brown III is not going to provide the internal pass pressure; he is basically designed to take on double teams and dig in.  Wharton, on the other hand, had a PFF score in those 9 games of 40 or so.  In fairness, he was playing with injuries, but Damn.  PFF gives me a higher rating at the Golden Corral buffet.  In other words, we need a true DT who can fill the two thirds of snaps that we just released.  We can't count on Turk and Brown III is not the answer.  Cam Jackson?  Same as Brown.  Have your people do what they do best.  Furthermore, Derrick Brown probably should limit his snaps.  Playing more than 3/4 of the snaps is hard on the body.  A tired player in the trenches is more prone to lower-body injuries. We need a player who can give Derrick Brown some relief and play opposite him as well.  Turk can rotate in but he needs to shoot gaps and give Guards and tackles fits--a change of pace.   I have to think we are going to draft DT much sooner than most Huddlers realize.  My favorite, you didn't ask? Probable second-rounder Gracen Halton (No. 59 overall, according to ESPN's March 2026 update). Once considered a Day 3 sleeper, his 2026 NFL draft stock has exploded into Round 2 or 3 due to elite interior pass-rush metrics.  Projected Round: 2 (Early to Mid) Key Traits: Elite explosive, quickness, 12.2%+ pass-rush win rate, and positional versatility to play inside on passing downs. Combine Highlights: Led defensive tackles in the vertical jump (36.5”) and broad jump, per Sports Illustrated. Draft Stock: Rising fast due to consistent 2025 production (7 tackles for loss) and a "freak show" combine performance, according to Stormin in Norman.  Halton is considered a high-motor playmaker and a potential Day 2 standout, notes   I would not be surprised to see DT on day 2.
