Todd McShay 3-round mock draft

Round 1 (No. 8 overall): Leonard Fournette – LSU RB

A few weeks ago it was reported that the Panthers are “100 percent sold” on Fournette, which makes this a logical pick. There are some analysts who are balking at the idea of using a top-ten pick on any running back in this class, but coach Ron Rivera says no pick is too early to take one.

Fournette’s size and skillset make him an ideal addition for Carolina’s power rushing attack. He may not be able to make defenders miss in space, but he can break a lot of tackles by pro linebackers who are trying to bring him down.

Round 2(No. 40 overall): Obi Melifonwu – UConn S

One of Carolina’s biggest roster holes is at the safety position. Fortunately, this year’s draft class has a number of quality safety prospects to choose from.

You can make a case that the Panthers should wait until the middle rounds to pick one given the depth, but nobody will be in a position to complain if they are able to land Melifonwu.

At 6-foot-4 and 224 pounds, Melifonwu has the necessary length, size and athleticism to become a top-notch defensive back at the pro level. He should have no problem defending tight ends leaking up the seam and he has the ball skills to switch over to cornerback if needed.

Round 2 (No. 64 overall): Jermaine Eleumunor – Texas A&M OL

Next, McShay has Carolina adding some much-needed depth to their offensive line, which was devastated by injuries last season.

Jermaine Eleumunor checks several boxes. He can play right tackle or slide inside to play guard in a pinch, as well. With a huge question mark hanging over the future of Michael Oher, finding a potential replacement with the same athletic profile is a must for the Panthers in this draft.

Eleumunor can solve several of Carolina’s offensive problems at once. Knowing that, taking him this late in the second round would probably qualify as a steal.

Round 3 (No. 98 overall): Pat Elflein – Ohio State C

Finally, McShay finished his three-round mock with a somewhat puzzling pick at No. 98 overall.

The Panthers already have an elite starting center in Ryan Kalil and a solid backup with Gino Gradkowski. Using a third-rounder to add more depth at the position simply doesn’t make much sense from where we’re sitting.

Not bad , first two picks are spot on but the rest are kinda headscratchers, although Fournette and obi could justify getting mostly depth for the rest of the draft if the two end up being blue chip pro bowl level talent . I'd still want a fast we somewhere in the draft even if it's late round need someone other than just Charles Johnson

With Kalil on his last season, most likely, questions at RT and Norwell not signed, great mock

2 versatile linemen that can cover, C, G and RT.  Plus a playmaker on offense and defense

How about Ardarius Stewart in the 3rd, he reminds me a lot of Smitty.
