The Difference Between the Carolina Franchises

Mother Grabber

Pt II

Carolina Hurricanes introduced cheerleaders into hockey rinks. Now, several other teams are doing the same thing. They encourage active fans and are routinely ranked as one of the better places to see a professional hockey game...at least in the US.

Carolina Panthers encourage passive fans, and kick people out for standing up. No questions asked. It's own fans are admitting that it's better to watch games at home than to go see them live.

The encouraging passive fans is hurting the Panthers,if you were a Panther player, how could you get pumped up and excited when the crowd only golf claps,no wonder we have no homefield advantage! If I ever sit in the lower seats and try to be a 12th man,I get dirty looks, our fan base is pathetic! Now on the other hand,I went to game 6 against the Devils up in Raleigh and the crowd was rockin!Of course it helps that the Canes, facing elimination, beat the hell out of them 4-0!

There's a difference in building your home stadium atmosphere around the ideas of "fun" and "safe".

Hell, the friggin' Greensboro Grasshoppers (minor league baseball club, for those not around these parts) have a better atmosphere at home than a lot of Panther games I've been to.

I'll keep going to BOA cause I love the team, but dammit I hate that place.

People don't even realize that the Hurricanes were rewarded a damn good franchise to begin with, while the Panthers are an expansion team. Tenfold in the way to "build a winner".

Actually, the Whalers/Hurricanes sucked for the last five seasons in Hartford and first season in Carolina. It is also a stretch to say that the Panthers "are an expansion team." "Were" an expansion team, yes. Are after 15 years, no.

Man that cracked me up last year during the Hurricanes playoff run. All these people talking about how much they've done since only 1997.

Um, the franchise was born in 1972 (started in the NHL in 1979). So it's 38 years old. I can't stand fans that don't even know their own team's history.

how can you even compare a NHL franchise to an NFL franchise? you need to compare them to the AFL,they currently are not playing like NHL did a few back

exactly, you can't compare them. the canes have been to a couple stanley cup finals, won 1 and is a model of consistancy almost EVERY YEAR. when are the panthers consistant EVERY YEAR? so, you are correct my friend, no comparison. the canes are winners, baby!! maybe the panthers should take notes?

the canes sucked balls when they first came here, and no one gave a poo about them when they played their first few years in greensboro, mine as well been an expansion team. i believe the hartford whalers were pretty much garbage the whole time, hence the move to n.c.

While I agree that the Hurricanes have been more successful and consistent than the Panthers, they have hardly been the model of consistency. They do have the one title, but they string together playoff appearances as often as the Panthers do.

Still, the ultimate point remains true--their management, particularly after the lockout/strike where they tooled their lineup to take advantage of the rule changes, has done an excellent job. They have cut ties with popular players for the betterment of the team (sort of like the Steelers/Patriots/Eagles) and haven't let ego get in the way of bringing back former players/coaches.

I saw this during basketball season last year on bobcatsplanet. It's like people from the triangle think that they are shoving it in Charlotte's face or something. I mean, I'm a hurricanes fan too but it seems like it just pisses you off that we have two teams in the big 4.

yes the RBC center is loud and yes the Hurricanes have been to the stanley cup twice. I mean we recognize that they are good, because most of us are fans anyways. Please save the Charlotte envy for when you write to Bev Purdue she loves to hear it I promise.

It had nothing to do with cities it is about the organizations. But let me go back to my original statement. Panthers dont have to win every year to make money. Hurricanes on the other hand lose money if they dont make the playoffs or barely break even. That is a big motivator for any owner to improve his team.

That is a great point

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
