Any DE rotation with Horton in the top 4 is thin.  I won't even talk about Delaire because he makes me physically sick!!!!!!  Addison has missed games, CJ may miss more than he plays (no such thing as a minor back injury), and Pep, though a freak, is 37 and needs to be rested and ready next February to send us all into ecstasy by rocking Brady into retirement.  Not gonna get a guy that broke Reggie White's sack record at the end of the 1st in 2018.  Just saying.

Same page, and when you consider Pep and CJ are going to be on pitch counts, and Addison is a 1-trick pony, we need an all-around DE....I keep hearing that we are going to trade up for Fournette--I have to think that if we trade up, it is for Garrett or Thomas.

Our other options, though not BAD, are DE's from Ohio, Villanova, Youngstown State, etc. who haven't proved jack sh*t in the bloody knuckle trenches against top competition on a regular basis. Barnett is manna from heaven but people "HATE" him.  We'll see.

I like the kid from Ohio (Basham, I think) but the Villanova freak is not going to get much rush.  I see him as a 34 2 gap DE.

While I don't love Barnett personally I'm leaning towards passing on DE all together unless we get him or Thomas.

Draft appears to favor 3-4 teams looking for a pass rusher way more than 4-3 teams.

If we don't get DE help we will get ripped to shreds this year, likely when it counts.  Too many things have to go right and the margin for error is too thin to logically think otherwise.

Exactly, great question.  It's hard looking at some of the guys in yellow we'll have to cut to make room for draft picks.  But competition is a good thing.  We didn't have nearly enough last year, though Dave did cut some of his draft picks for the first time (Sandland, and Sanchez, though he bounced back on roster eventually.).

Here's another look at the roster - a side by side comparison of Offense (left) and Defense (right).  Defense is going to be much harder to make the team.  I really think we go quite heavy on Offense (at least 4 picks out of 5 or 6 total).  I'm QUITE sure Dave WILL draft a DE.  But beyond that on defense, I'm not so sure...

Remember the blue & yellow would conceivably be our 53 man roster if we were starting the season today without any draft picks.

Here's who I expect would go to make room for 5 draft picks: [DE, RB., TE, WR, S]

1) Ryan Delaire

2) CAP or Fozzy  (depends on what style of running back we draft)

3) Ed Dickson or Scott Simonson

4) Damiere Byrd (sorry to all his fans...!) and/or Brenton Bersin (note I don't even have Bersin making the current 53).  Ginn's departure means we need SPEED and a returner.  Gives Byrd a slight edge right now if he were healthy.

5) Dean Marlowe or Colin Jones

.....

If we were to draft an OT it might signal that Oher will likely NOT be able to play and he could be released

At CB, None of Sanchez / Young / Teddy Williams are really safe in my book.  Any of these could be upgraded.

Loving this thread btw..., anyway Sanchez, Lou Young, Teddy Williams. Delaire wont be cut IMO and I seriously doubt Marlowe would get cut unless he gets injured again. I've heard the coaching staff loves that guy..Btw, Eric Crume is a gem!!! Remember that name, solid player.

All the TE's are eligible to be cut except Olsen and Manhurtz(PS).

When you look at the roster ...hard decisions and hurt feelings are looming but it'd obvious atleast offensively, we need a few upgrades.

The typical 5-6 picks + the annual 3-4 hidden UDFA .... cuts will be hard.

Those three in that order. Zay Jones has been my guy at #40 for a long time.

If the first two days of the draft went according to plan for me, assuming no trades, we'd end up with:

Leonard Fournette, Zay Jones, DeMarcus Walker, and Jordan Leggett.

haha we are on the exact same page
