Blow it up?

Recommended Posts

I'm a big Hornets fan, and was a Bobcats season ticket holder when I lived in Charlotte, so I don't ask this question lightly or with really any sarcasm behind it.

Should we just blow this thing up?  Auction off the roster, and try and rebuild?

Kemba Walker is an elite player.  No doubt.  He is one of the best PG's in the NBA, without question.  He is really the only person on the roster that I look at and say "We absolutely can't afford to lose him."  I used to think the same about MKG, but now that he's played basically an entire season healthy, I don't really think that anymore.  He is still a major offensive liability, and he's not as elite of a defender as we thought.

I say... keep Kemba, and dump everybody else.  Build through the draft, and maybe package MKG, Zeller, and maybe one more guy together and try and land a max-deal type guy to help Kemba out.

Man... the NBA really F'd us when they gave us MKG instead Anthony Davis.... I'm still pissed about that.

the problem with "blowing it up " is that our players are not worth anything of value so we are just kinda stuck in this grey area 7th/8th seed or lotto limbo area til the end of time.

Batum's contract is an albatross, however there is no doubt he is a very highly valued player.

But I think a few organizations would value MKG, Cody, or Frank.  They are all 3 viable NBA players and could really contribute to contenders.

I think we should shop Batum and try to get Plumlee's contract off the books when we do it (man that was a terrible trade looking back). I like Batum but his trade value is probably peaking right now, if he has another bad season...

We missed our window to trade MKG for something worthwhile, although I don't blame us for holding out. It's a shame he never developed a reliable 3.

Overall if we end up with pick like 11 we might be able to trade up to 7 should someone like Monk fall. I think we should swing for the fences on a young guy.

Cody is so valuable to our team, but he's on an absolute steal of a deal and he might actually be a good trade piece.

Inevitably, I don't think much will be done this offseason. When healthy we actually had a very competitive team and Jordan wants that.

I can't believe I kept my season tickets to this team especially after the Plumlee trade. Who in the hell would be foolish enough to take on that contract besides the Hornets of course. Going to have to get creative to get another all-star type player to go with Kemba. We've got a few talented pieces, but I have no confidence in Cho to get something done. Only shot may be a player with some baggage similar to Boogie last year that we could acquire. That's probably a pipe dream though.

    • I think we pick it up and then someone else ends up emerging as the QB next year and we end up cutting him in year 5 and eating it.  That would be the most on brand thing to happen.
    • Evero has his faults, but even in that loss, the team only gave up 20 points. Your post gets to the heart of the matter. We are not a talented team on defense at this time. Some of our younger guys may develop w/more playing time, but for now we have no impact players at LB or EDGE. We could really use a ball-hawking S on the back end as well. We have exactly two players that have to be accounted for on every play, D. Brown, and J.Horn. Mike Jackson has been solid. The other starters would probably be backups on most the upper echelon NFL teams. We really can't expect this team to a Top 10 defense with such a lack of talent. All things considered I've been somewhat impressed with how much better they have played this year.   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-points-per-game   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-average-team-passer-rating We are in the top 15 in terms of points allowed per game (22.6) and top 12 in defensive passer rating (88.9). And, we are doing this without a formidable PASS RUSH. Even our rushing defense has improved. We are #16 in rushing yards allowed per game (116) compared to 179 per game last season. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-rushing-yards-per-game I wouldn't cry if Evero moved on after the season, but his defense isn't the biggest worry for our team.
