Are we the biggest sleeper the last few seasons?

Maybe im just being a homer but how the heck are we being so overlooked.

We're not overlooked or a sleeper.  If you listen to what is actually being said, nobody is saying we are a bad team and are not capable of being a contender, they just see questions that keep them from putting us in the top group of teams until they see how those questions are answered.  Most are not sure if Cam will be back to his old self after the surgery or how he will adjust to the new offense.  They also question our OL, pass rush, and secondary.

The Cam question is the biggest one, though.  I get the sense that almost all of those dropping us are doing so because of the uncertainty surrounding Cam.  Most say if he is healthy and adapts to the offensive evolution, then we will be a team to watch out for.  The OL question is a bit lazy since most gloss over how injury depleted we were last year, but how good Matt Kalil will be is a legitimate question.

So, it's more about us being an unknown than an underrated sleeper.

No back to back winning seasons, Cam has an injured shoulder. The Oline is a big question mark. We play in arguably the toughest division in football.

I love the additions we made but I am tempering my expectations. Last season was a huge kick in the groin. I'm not trying to go through that again.

We did not have a winning record last season so we are good to go.

In the end there is your record. Everything else is a figment of thought to fill space and sell advertising

I don't feel like we're a sleeper team. We are just mercurial as a franchise- up, down, and in the middle. I really do not know what to expect this year. As it's been said, the O-line is a big question mark. Our interior is good, but the tackle spot is a mystery. I wasn't and am still not high on the Lil Kalil signing, and not because of the contract. He has declined every year since his rookie year. Am I suppose to believe that he has really been chronically injured this whole time and now that he is here with Ryan he is suppose to magically be healthy and perform? I'm not saying it isn't possible- I'm not saying he's def going to suck either. I just have no clue. I think it's a big time gamble from Gman. I hope it works out. And I desperately want to be proved wrong about it too. I hope he fills the hole that's been there since Gross left as a long term solution. And the other thing that worries me is the coaching staff. Everyone talks about Shula but I'm not high on RR. He took zero accountability in his post season presser- as apposed to Gman who acknowledged his mistakes. I've never really liked him- I'm really wondering if Riverboat was just fools gold. He just feels like Fox 2.0- don't think he can get us a Lombardi- which is sad because I feel like our roster can. Again, I hope I'm wrong about this. These two things plus our division- The NFCS will be a dogfight this year.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
