Will Batum get some balls this year?

WOW!!

Everybody talks about Monk taking MKG out the starting line up but imo if Batum doesn't get that alpha dog mentality and help Kemba put up points nightly.. He should be the one going to the bench because Monk defintley has that alpha scoring mentality..

So will this be the year he stops acting french and actually put more selfishness in his game?

He admitted at the end of the season that he needed to be more selfish and work on scoring more. A lot of how he played this year was based on helping Kemba get the accolades he got. I'd like to see more scoring from him as well.

He won't ever be out of the starting lineup though because he isn't a liability in any facet of the game. Even if he isn't scoring, he can help facilitate an offense, rebound and capably defend. Not many guys in the league can say they have put up a 5-5-5-5-5 game. Batum is one. He will be a starter as long as he's healthy

If he goes another season where he isn't posting up players like Beal and Avery or driving by Other 2 guards in the league he needs to see the bench..
He wasn't brought here and paid to be a 5-5-5-5-5 guy.. This team needs him to be a 20+ point scorer a night the rest is gravy after that.. I need for him to facilitate his on offense more.. Many a night i watch him pass up scoring oppourtunities when he should have dominated the player guarding him..
He is making to much money to be a glue guy..

Well Kemba was averaging 23 ppg last year so Batum at 20+ is probably unrealistic but I get what you're saying. If Batum is in the 16 ppg realm that's fantastic and what we should get given his contract.

My point was, because he is good at most every major statistical category in basketball, he will always start if he's healthy.

No he's not wired that way, he similar to Boris Diaw. Incrediblely skilled player, unselfish with no killer instinct.

Don't laugh at that Boris could dominate a game when he wanted to when he was younger, just never wanted to.

This is my fear with him..
At 6'8 with great wing span, handles, and shooting ability.. He should be a allstar guard in the East no doubt.. But his mentality is to be so passive it's fustrating .. MJ should brain fuse with him or atleast let Batum spend a whole offseason with him getting killer instant training..

There is no reason Batum can't avg. 20 per game.. He should be 1 of the top sg in the east if not the league..
Honestly what can Klay do that Nic can't do?
Other than being a better spot up shooter (and not a big margin there) .. Nic has better handles is a better athelet and should be a better defender with his lenght..

Batum has the skill to do anything on a basketball court. Adding Howard will help EVERYONE, including Batum. Batum for MKG will likely happen, but not necessarily in the starting lineup. Bacon and Monk off the bench are gonna light up the scoreboard...

The combo of Batum at 2 with a guy like MKG at SF in our starting 5 is pretty much setting the team back from getting past a first round.

It's hard to believe Marco freaking Bellinelli played 1700+ minutes last year.  Those will now be dished to Monk.  Heck, I will go out on a lim with @WOW!!: Monk can have a ROTY type season, yes, totally possible, averaging around 13/GM.

I bring this up because if this happens, next year, I'm looking beyond Batum at 2, MKG at 3, and searching for the future 3.

I'll take Monk & Lamb as our 2s.  Lamb turned it up last season and kept us in games so I'm fine with him getting the main backup SG minutes.

We just need that wing scorer which Batum was in France and occasionally in RIP City, but man, he doesn't have the edge for it in today's NBA.  It's so frustrating because he's a great shooter.

    • I like Jaycee a lot and appreciate his leadership but to say he's above Ramsey right now is based on hopium let's be realistic. He's got a great deal to prove this season. I’m hoping to see that he firmly establishes himself amongst his peers.
    • It’s amazing how simple it is. When you are winning 2-7 games for 7 straight years, you’d think people would understand that just drafting some starters isn’t poo unless they are above average NFL starters. Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase started their rookie years like Legette did so we got an elite WR in the 2024 draft. Luke was a rookie starter just like Wallace. Damn we basically got a Kuechly and Jefferson last year. Bravo Dan Morgan!!!
    • I didn’t even say they would be starters. I don’t think Legette will be and Coker was not drafted. Coker chose to sign with us because our WR room gave him a chance to start even though we drafted a guy in the 1st. That should tell you something when Coker chose to come to Carolina even after we took Legette. We drafted and signed guys to potentially replace Sanders, who isn’t a starter yet over Tremble) and Wallace. Go look at our other drafts since Rhule. We had tons of rookie contribution from all of our recent classes. Why, because our overall talent sucked and we needed bodies. Go look at PFR. Here’s some of our players who “started” for a year: TMJ, Mingo, BC, Ian Thomas, Jermaine Carter, Dennis Daley, YGM and Roy. That’s what Legette and Wallace are right now although unless TMac bombs, Legette has kind of already lost his spot. We’ve had shitty drafts since 2018 and every single one has contributed at least two guys who’ve started so 2024 is tied for last right now and we just had a draft where we took 3 more players who play the same position as 3 of our top 4 picks in 2024 but somehow I’m saying that the 2024 draft class is good? Nope, the 2024 draft class was bad and our team is still in the low enough talent quadrant that lots of rookie contribute in our holes until we replace them. Been the same story since 2018 and accelerated as the old solid vets retired/move on.
