Mr. Scot

We discussed TD/Olsen in some threads some time ago and you seemed to be sure things could get ugly... Any foresight of this, or was that just your thoughts before?

I'll write some general observations later.

Kirchner is my favorite out of Dorsey and Cowden to be honest.

Kirchner is the guy with the most success on his resume' at the moment.  He's part of a team that's been to two Super Bowls and has had some great drafts. He certainly isn't a bad option.

I do question whether he'd leave Seattle, though.

Mr. Scot...any retired GM's (besides Hurney) that might be an interim candidate?

Besides Marty Hurney?

There's Ron Wolf, but he's in his late 70s.  Floyd Reese is a little younger (68) but he retired about 5 years ago.  Lord knows Bill Parcells always seems to be lurking.

ESPN just dumped former Bucs GM Mark Dominik.  Problem there, he's not that good.

Not technically "retired" but I know John Dorsey has been mentioned. I don't know if I take that seriously just yet.

JR's old buddy Ernie Accorsi is working as a consultant with the Lions.  Given that Accorsi was a big fan of dave gettleman though, not sure how that would work.

And hey, there's this ESPN guy named Bill Polian. He's got some GM experience.

Brings up a question: Will Richardson allow a 'consultant' to run the search again (Lord, I hope so).

Probably not Accorsi this time. Wonder if Joe Gibbs would do it (might be a conflict though since he has some kind of special title with the Redskins).

However, does it really matter? We get a new GM but he'll be either a Yes Man or fired in a few years after he stands up to him for cutting Davis or another beloved player.

I don't trust Richardson anymore. Here's hoping he kicks the bucket soon.

You're a good damn dickhead! Just because the owner of a football team that you don't even half ass pull for makes a decision you don't like, you want him dead? fug you!

Hell no to this guy or anyone else from Seattle's front office. The Seahawks front office is vastly overrated and has been living off the 2011/2012 drafts for years now. Just look at the state of their OL. Not to mention how badly another former John Schneider associate - John Idzik - performed as G.M. with the Jets.

Ryan Cowden from the Titans right now is my favorite potential pick. I also wouldn't mind the Panthers taking a look at Mike Mayock from NFL Network. I know he was up for the Redskins GM job earlier this year and he certainly knows his stuff when it comes to scouting and is also a former player, which would be a big plus if J.R. really is looking for someone who would have better people skills when dealing with the players.

Kirchner's bio from the Seahawks 2016 media Guide:

Trent Kirchner begins his second season as co-director of player personnel after spending two seasons as the Seahawks pro personnel director.  He works collaboratively with Scott Fitterer in directing both the college scouting and pro personnel departments to manage and strengthen all aspects of the Seahawks roster. In his previous role as pro personnel director, he oversaw NFL free agency, the advance scouting of Seahawks’ upcoming opponents, evaluation of NFL practice squads, as well as the scouting of all professional leagues including the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football Leagues. During the season he coordinated free agent tryouts, monitored NFL transactions and assisted in the recruiting and signing of all free agent players. Since the2010 season, Kirchner and the pro scouting staff have made more than 1,300 player transactions to help form one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. Kirchner and the pro scouting staff played integral roles in the trades of Marshawn Lynch and Jimmy Graham. In addition, they were central to the unrestricted free agent acquisitions Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril - both of whom played key roles in helping Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII, the first title in team history. Kirchner originally joined the Seahawks as assistant director of pro personnel on February 5, 2010. Before joining Seattle, Kirchner played an important role in helping turn the Panthers around from a 1-15 record to Super Bowl XXXVIII participants in just two years through key free agent acquisitions such as Jake Delhomme and Stephen Davis. Kirchner spent eight seasons in Carolina as a prosciutto where they had one Super Bowl appearance, two conference championship appearances and won two division titles. Before his time with the Panthers, he spent one year as the college scouting coordinator for the Washington Redskins. During his senior year in college (spring of 2000) he volunteered with the Kansas City Chiefs at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. From there, he joined the Seahawks as an intern splitting time between the public relations and college scouting departments. He also interned with the Minnesota Twins in 1999. A native of Minnesota, he graduated with a degree in business management from St. John’s (Minn.) University, where he played quarterback for two years. Trent and his wife, Jessica, have two sons, Carter and Landon.

Highlights:

- helped orchestrate the trades for Marshawn Lynch and Jimmy Graham

- scouted and helped sign Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril

- while with the Panthers, helped acquire Stephen Davis and Jake Delhomme

Yes, please.  Ideal...

Who was the other guy from the Ravens we were rumored to be interested in during the Acorsi search?  He was my favorite candidate at the time, but I would definitely be ecstatic to pull a guy from a consistent winner like the Hawks with a thorough scouting background...  so, Kirchner seems ideal.

Eric DeCosta? General take on him is he'll never leave the Ravens because he's Ozzie Newsome's heir apparent.

Kirchner and Schneider might possibly  be a similar dynamic.
