Panthers coach Ron Rivera liked what he saw out of second-round draft pick Curtis Samuel, coming off a hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of camp. But Rivera wouldn't commit to the former Ohio State wide receiver playing in Thursday's preseason game. "We want to be smart with him,'' Rivera said on Monday. "We don't want to put him in a situation where he goes from zero to 50 right away. We'll take a good look. If he has a good day tomorrow we'll consider it.''

Funchess is going to be a lot better than some of you think this year. It will still be tough for him to put up big numbers though, just because we don't throw the ball 40+ times a game like most teams today.

He doesn't have to pick up big numbers. What most of us have a problem with is his efficiency . 39.7% catch rate is absolute ass.

That number is nothing but a judgement call  though. Who determines what is a catchable ball and what is not and/or the degree of difficulty of the catch anyway?
