If you're going to fake it, Reddi Whip is FAR closer to the real thing. Real or Reddi, the three main ingredients are identical: cream, water, sugar. For Cool Whip: water, hydro veggie oil, and fructose. Nutritionally speaking, real/Reddi are also better for you...significantly, but none of them are exactly healthy. They also taste better. The only thing Cool Whip has going for it is that it holds its texture at room or higher temps. So what? Homemade ice cream melts too, and there ain't nuthin better, especially this time of year.

growing up my family would always but a container of cool whip and when it was used up would reuse the container to make more using just cream, water, and sugar. real simple to do. add in just a little vanilla or other flavorings like cinnamon and/or nutmeg and you've got something really good.

those containers made great cereal bowls too. had a ton of those things sitting in the cupboard used for lots of stuff.

once a container of reddi whip is used....its not good for anything but the landfill.

tastes good tho and makes for a fun evening with the wife too.

Yeah, we had all three growing up. The real thing for family get togethers and special occassions, Cool Whip for regular use, and Reddi when we didn't have time to make it. We got yelled at for unauthorized use of the Reddi Whip, especially the direct squirt technique. And  yes, it does enhance "relaxation" time with the wife on occasion. I especially like its application accuracy due to the design of Reddi Whip's canisters. She also noted that it mixes well with other similar ingredients.

Cool whip is sugar whipped up with high fructose corn syrup and palm oil.

Fuggin nasty.

Get some real whipping cream and make your own.

I bought a hot/cold whipping siphon and it's great for stuff like this. You can also use it to infuse oils, pickle veggies, etc., etc..

I have no clue what the heck a hot cold whipping siphon is, but if it's anything like I envision, I can foresee a couple of interesting alternative uses for such a gizmo. Might have to get us one to play around with and test drive.

Most whipping siphons can only be used for cold food prep, like whipped cream, etc. However a hot/cold whipping siphon can be kept in a hot water bath to make things like Hollandaise/Bernaise sauces and other things that need to be served warm. If you're going to get one though, don't go cheap. The cheap ones have caused a number of injuries including one death of a super hot fitness model a month or two ago. ISI makes the best siphons out of stainless steel with metal threading on all of the attachments. The cheap ones can use plastic or lighter weight metals that won't withstand the pressure of the CO2 or Nitrogen cartridges. Mine has never had an issue, but it cost me about $100.
