I don't understand why anyone would be happy to see Gano out, I have more faith in our kicking game going into this season with him than I would with an unproven rookie.  Gano has missed big kicks, but he's made big kicks too.  Relying on a rookie kicker going into the year seems very risky, if he starts blowing kicks then we bring someone else in and it turns into one of those bad unsettled K position situations.

The last time Gano made a big kick was when? The Giants in 2015???... cause he damn sure didn't make any last year.

Gano is ranked 4th over the past 4 seasons for games with less than 80% FG. He averages 4 games per year with less than 80%. He ranks 15th over the past 4 seasons for kickers with games converting 90%+ FG (37/64 games - 58%). The better kickers in the league are converting 90% in 70 to 75% of games played.

In 2016, Gano only managed 8/16 games with 90%+ FG. Rookies can do that, and they get cut for it. Gano has been on a downward trend with his FG% over the past 4 seasons. He needs to be 12+ games with 90%+ FG to justify his increasing salary versus his downward production.

Plug any kicker in and you can expect 8 good games, 4 bad games, and 4 average games. The good kickers are at least 10 good games, 2 bad games, and 4 average games. Stating it is just 1 or 2 more bad games than the better kickers in the league is a bit ridiculous, because there is only a 2 to 3 game swing between a good kicker and a bad kicker. It is about consistency and Gano does not have it.

Think of it like a .100, .200, and .300 batter in a baseball game. It may only be 1 or 2 extra hits, but it makes a big difference when you are talking about a limited number of at bats in a game. Gano is a .200 hitter on the verge of being a .100 hitter.

Consistency is the name of the kicking game.

Our fanbase is too nice/classy/relatively uninformed, but it's honestly bad enough and worthy enough for Gano Must Go signs tomorrow night.

To do the same thing expecting different results is insanity.. let's be frank only a imbecile would suggest gano is are best option..

I'd rather go with a fresh rookie who can build a clean track record save 2mil in the process then go with sum bum kicker who knows he should've been axed long ago..

were potential gonna pass up on a kicker who gave us a perfect preseason for guy who's shown us he won't be poised in the SUPER BOWL the whole point of this journey.. confidence is a very powerful tool..

Gano is not the kicker of the future for the Panthers, his history of gaffes in a Panthers uniform clearly shows that.

The fact that it's even a question or that he has to compete with a rookie tells you he's on the outside looking in. Just pull off the bandaid now instead of dragging it through the season, and then being potentially forced to make a move if he starts missing kicks again.

Bring in Aguayo, Haden, Revis, and TO.

Aguayo? No! Sorry... I loved me some Aguayo at FSU, but unfortunately, he doesn't have enough of the technicalities needed out of a kicker to make it in the NFL for long. He was great in high school, though mostly self-taught, and great in college, but every jump brings great need for the preciseness of the speed and technicality needed to be a place-kicker. The NFL has no room for error and Aguayo doesn't have the perfected muscle memory that prevents him from erroring more often than not at the NFL level. This is unfortunate for him because I'm a big fan, but I just don't think he'll make it without a ton of practice and coaching.

Gano is also an FSU boy, and better than most think. He's had some problems, yes, but he's also had some injuries. Kickers have very few chances on the field and sometimes they miss... think about all the missed tackles there are vs the opportunities for missed tackles.

IDK, I still think Gano is the best option on the roster, and probably the best option of what's available even in FA.

100% untrue.  Dan Carpenter has proven to be better than Gano despite kicking in Buffalo and other miserable weather on a routine basis.  Not even including cost and the overwhelming intangibles that hang over Gano's sucktitude sucking life out of this team.

Gano sucks.  FSU kickers suck.

    • This is a good story--I LOVED his dad as a person and player--I talked to him at an OTA (he was back for his second stint) and he was talking about Moore (the WR from Wake Forest) being so young.  I was with my teenage son and told him, "This is Taylor.  He and I attended the OTAs when you were in Rock Hill as a rookie."  He jokes, "Was he in diapers then?" and laughed.  I imagine Moose III was in diapers when we chatted that day.  So I really would love for this to work out.  However, his stats do not suggest he was anything special in college.
    • I guess there are signs. The combination of the turf toe, hamstring, and knee issues led to questions about his long-term health and affected his draft stock, causing him to fall to the second round.  Here is what I know about a knee injury.  It changes nearly every aspect of your lower body movement.  So the turf toe and hamstring could be related.  It makes him seem injury prone.  I guess the knee was not the most recent injury, so the others could have been a result of favoring the knee. Johnson did not run the 40 at the combine or pro day.  That suggests there is something he feels might drop his value.  So if you downplay the severity of the injury, have a history of possibly related injuries, and refuse to demonstrate (when given multiple opportunities) that you are fully recovered, don't get mad when your stock drops.
    • I saw numerous reports leading up to the draft that he'd been injury red flagged by numerous teams due to cartilage damage and wear issues that they think could shorten his career.
