We can ask for another team to not offer him more than we can afford, for one thing. We can ask that he would want to play here, for another. Everybody always assumes that it's just a matter of us signing the paperwork, but it's never that simple.

Most teams don't need a SS, much less contenders.

Free agent. He can go to anyone he chooses that feels like making an offer.

Everybody is always looking to upgrade even if they like the guys they have. Think about it. Would you really be surprised if Belichick went after this guy?

He's not bumping Chung or McCourty.

We shoud at least do our due diligence and reach out. He would be the best safety we've had in years.

I'm sure we will. I just want people to realize that they won't announce it if they try and fail to get him, but people will still assume they never tried. They always do.
