A different view of the 6 sacks on Cam Newton

Cam checked down quite a bit against SF and needs to continue to look for the check down. Cams biggest problem is he is always looking for a 20+ yard completion. Dump it to CMC and let him do his thing.

I do think it is dumb play design to run verticals that close to the goal line. There is not much field to work with and takes a long time to develop. Shula can send a couple receivers deep but he needs a medium route and check down, ala Samuel and CMC to run after catch.

Same ole shizz from last year and it is on Shula and Cam.

It's crazy Shula has been doing this for so long and hasn't learned to design a hot read and a check down on every play. It is literally play design 101.

One thing I noticed was cam was sacked in less than 4 seconds each time. So why is everyone saying he held the ball too long

That is way too long it needs to be out under 3 seconds. Look at the great qbs always getting ball out around 2.75 seconds. Alot of those would be first downs if he gets rid of it and takes the short pass. Just like last year keeps going for it all. Take what the defense gives you. He has not figured that out yet. I think he makes the oline look bad on 4 out of 6 of those plays.

Cam has that gunslinger mentality. He is going to look downfield and often, which leads to a bunch of sacks (along with the sh*t LT). I really wish Cam would take that easy play sometimes and check it down or hit the drag route. But hey, you take the bad with the good.

I'm watching a lot of other games where QB's are getting the ball out in less than 3 seconds, completing passes, and taking big hits in some cases. The line was bad but there are definitely times where there were guys open underneath if Cam gets the ball out quick enough. I'm sure he will get quicker as the season goes on though.

About getting lined up. Is it the plays coming in slow or is it a lack of urgency to get on the ball? How can we know unless we can hear what Cam hears in his helmet or how long it takes him to call the play in the huddle?

Dude every single one of your posts is a dig at Cam. Don't you ever get tired of that poo?

I'm ready to give Cam a bit of a break, here, considering he hasn't had a lot of stick time with the new weapons. Things are not happening quickly, in part, because he's not used to the tools he now has available. Should improve considerable as the year moves forward.

Another thing that stands out is how Funchess was able to find all of that real estate in the middle on his receptions.

/in the huddle

funfun: dude imma just go stand in the middle of the field sort of to the right

cam: aight

It's called finding the hole in the zone and it's a sign of a good WR.

I have praised Cam too but I will always call it like I see it, regardless of anybody's feelings or how the "group" is thinking. It is a fact that he could have checked the ball down on a couple of those plays and it is a fact that other QB's find a way to do it. I believe in Cam but he most definitely needs to work on that, and he has said the same thing.

People aren't differentiating between a hot route and a check down. A hot route gets open quickly almost immediately in case of pressure or the play breaking down (eg the out routes on play 3 and 5 ... see how quickly receivers get their heads turned around for those). A check down is the last in a series of reads if others are covered (eg CMC on play 6 which took 3-4 seconds to develop).

Lol I never called it a check down, I actually played real football, not just madden, I know the difference

Something Olsen is notably good at. It's good to see Funchess picking up on the nuances of finding spots on the zone coverage.

There is absolutely NO WAY Shula's favored 15-yd minimum patterns can be seen to get open in 3 seconds or less.  Its impossible.  I guess they just wants Cam to "anticipate" and fling it expecting our receivers, who have proven to struggle to get open year after year after year, to be open anyway.

And then, after its intercepted, Cam will be poo-upon for making the "wrong read".
