Hi. I'm a big NFL fan and I'm trying to get a better understanding of each team's defense. I tried to create a depth chart for the Panthers. This is what I got...

Carolina
Starting Defensive Ends: Charles Johnson & Mario Addison
Starting defensive tackles: Kawann Short & Star Lotulelei
Depth on the defensive line: Julius Peppers, Wes Horton, Kyle Love, Vernon Butler, & Daeshon Hall

Starting linebackers: Thomas Davis, Luke Kuechly, & Shaq Thompson
Depth at linebacker: Jeremy Cash, David Mayo, Jared Norris, & Ben Jacobs

Starting corners: James Bradberry & Daryl Worley
Starting nickel: Captain Munnerlyn
Starting safeties: Mike Adams & Kurt Coleman
Depth at secondary: Colin Jones, Demetrious Cox, Kevon Seymour, & Cole Luke

Key Injuries:

 

1.) Which parts of this depth chart do you disagree with? 
2.) Which positions do you feel like your starters are great (top 7 in the NFL at that position)?
3.) Which positions do you feel are very deep? Which players make them deep?
4.) Which positions do you feel are weakest?

 

I would appreciate any insight you could offer. Good luck this season.

Julius Peppers hasn't actually been starting games. They tend to wait and see what the offense is doing before putting him out there. Keeping him fresh is priority #1.

What about depth at linebacker? What if Luke gets another concussion? (God forbid)

That is why things are subject to change. Injuries can affect teams. Mayo could fill in some, but Luke is the best MLB in the game so there will be a significant drop off

Got it. Sounds like starting linebackers are great but there might not be much quality depth there. Thanks.

Of course the dropoff is great, but in reality it’s going from best MLB in the NFL by far to a solid starter. Mayo’s better than Klein as a backup and overall MLB. We have very good depth.

The Dline is a strength, good rotation.  Top shelf talent the whole way thru.  

LBs are even better than the line.  Best in football including depth.  Mayo, Cash, Jacobs all contribute to STs.

Secondary is young and promising.  CBs are anchored by vet Safeties and Nickle.

Mayo would definitely start for many other teams if he had the chance.

Got it. Sounds like the secondary then is the weakness. 

Who are the guys who are still most productive on the D-line. So many good players there, but who now has the best play?

Its still going to be a big drop off. And that's because I think Luke is so damn good. Mayo would hold his own though
