Has Newton been David Carr'd?

Yeah, Cam has never been a pocket presence type guy.  He doesn't move well within the pocket.  Every time he spins around to evade a rush in front of him, that adds to the smashing impact of the guy behind him when they meet.  I really wanted Riley Reiff, with Kalil coming here on a one year prove it deal at the RT spot.  Once we gave him that fat contract, I was hopeful he would live up to it.  After watching him completely let Cam Jordan have free reign over Cam this past Sunday, I'm thinking this is turning into a complete disaster.  That play was crazy!

All that said, we sorely need Ryan Kalil back at center.  Our running game is mostly ineffective without him.

what? how tf has cam never been a pocket presence guy? I can bring 50 examples from just last year of him moving around and commanding the pocket well.

Cam has always held onto the ball too long when he could have thrown it away and not taken a hit.  His lack of awareness has also been a major problem.  I suppose those are  g man and Riveras fault as well ?

No, I agree with you 100%. I'm stating that the fact that we've ignored the LT..which is most important spot on oline for a right handed qb...doesn't make it any easier, he's developed a poor internal clock for pressure and that effects his decision making. Trust me, I'm watching every single play yelling at the TV for him to throw the fuging ball almost every play haha

That's fair, but there are also many plays of him spinning around, completely turning his back to the field.  It's a wasted movement that takes slightly more time to make than just simply going from right to left, left to right.  There are also times when he does the 360, when it would have been better to step up into the pocket.  Sometimes the 360 leads to good runs that evade the pass rush, yet other times a defender meets him and unloads great punishment.

I know plenty, and plenty, of well respected analysts that say Cam's pocket movement has been one of the top tier. In fact, his 2011 rookie year set the precedent as an example college analysts look for in pocket movement.

His read progressions as of now need work. That's what killed us on Sunday more-so than not.

Man when I go back and look at those incredible head shots Cam took in that Denver game, if I was Cam with all I have in front of me I never play another down of football.  Kueckly too.  We are lucky they are even trying.  Can anyone find video of a QB taking those kind of vicious shots to the head?  Ever?

BTW..Ward did that shet again last week.  Dude should be banned seriously.

Copied and pasted from a post I put up on another thread along these same lines:

Look, Cam has maybe 7-8 more years in his career before the physical toll will force him from the game before he wants to go. By the same measure that his physical attributes made him an anomaly at the QB position, those same attributes will soon become liabilities as the injuries mount.

We've seen the best of Cam Newton and he will likely never surpass his own best season. It's remarkable how many fans on this board continue to talk, beg and plead for better coaching, changing mechanics, changing play style, etc. It's not gonna happen. What Cam is today is what Cam will be next season and 4 seasons from now. You might get away with coaching a kid up during his first 3-4 years if you have that luxury, but it's not happening 7 years into a career. The Carolina Panthers will live and die by Cam Newton as long as he is the starting QB and hoping for some revelation that will turn him into a 65-67% completion rate, consistent 90+ rating player is probably not happening either.

Cam's legs are no longer a DC nightmare. Any DC worth half his salary knows all he needs is decent pass coverage and holding the edge, forcing Cam to throw from the pocket. Save for Shepard and Samuel, there isn't a WR on the roster who is going to run past anyone and separation is a mythical occurrence which does not happen in Charlotte. As a DC, I'll give Cam a couple running 1st downs a game in exchange for a 61% completion rate and a 2-pick per game average.

Bottom line- Cam Newton no longer intimidates, causes insomnia, keeps HCs guessing or DBs worried. What you see is what you got.
