Welp, time to go get tested so I can get me  a free get out of jail card!

"Mr.Fua you can't seriously be this stupid?"

"Don't worry sir, I have CTE"

I know you're joking, but IMO it's a real dilemma. I mean, if the condition is irreversible and virtually untreatable, would you even want to know? Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I think for safety reasons (as it progresses and gets scarier) I think I would want to know. Then you can maybe be better prepared for who knows what and better prepare the people closest to you.

Seems like technology would have caught up and could make equipment to deal with football collisions, but I guess it really comes down to acceptable risk.  And it is obviously about physics, I mean, we still have people dying is car accidents, and think of all the R&D money that has been spent on that.

Honestly, I don't think I would. I get what you're saying and it makes sense, but for me personally, I think I'd just let it ride as long as the condition remains virtually untreatable. If I started to develop symptoms, then I'd consider the testing at that point. If treatment options advanced, then I'd definitely pursue the testing.

I played through my early 20's, i think most know they are shortening their lives, we all did.

Still chose to play. As long as it is a personal decision, people will play. My body is fuged, but I would still do it again.

I have had 4 dignosed concussions, and more that were not, surely.

It's a tough bag, I teach my kids that you can't live your life scared, you take risks and live life with as much fun as possible. If you wanna do something perceived as dangerous, do it. You will regret it at the end, if not.

Prob. Not the way most people think, but what is life, if not fun. WASTED and BORING.

Yep, the human body can be both remarkably durable at times and shockingly fragile at other times. There's no way to eliminate risk. I just think back to that LB a few years ago who tore his ACL falling down the stairs in his house. Everyone well knows the risk of tearing your ACL playing football and here this guy has played all his life ACLs intact and falls down the stairs in his house and... torn ACL. Sometimes poo happens.

I agree, but that's not the way the world works unfortunately. In our overly litigious society, the concept of individual accountability is virtually dead. Seems like anything that happens to anyone is somehow someone else's fault.

Your right, lawsuits could be the killer. It is kind of crazy that we do things to make ourselves less free. Give ourselves less options????

We will lose the option to do something we love because personal accountability no longer exists.

Feels like we are working ourselves into a boring life.

Wake up, go to school x 10,000.

Wake up, go to work x forever.

fug THAT.

Football shouldn't be done away with.

If you play football you will get brain damage, you can make a lot of money though.

The problem is that even if the players know that going in they will still hold those that pay them a lot of money responsible and sue for more when their brain turns to mush.

How though

McDonald's can't get sue'd for a burn because somebody spills coffee on themselves. It says caution hot contents on the cup. NFL says caution can cause brain damage. Can't sue.
