Be careful buying tickets on Craigslist

I have been buying tickets to almost every game on CL for the past decade, it is my favorite place to get a good deal. I have never gotten scammed and always  good deal, a deal usually too good to be true and thus I have always been wary. However, I wanted to let huddlers know this year it appears scammers have become very smart and creative in their schemes. They are now taking payments through Venmo, Velle, Square Cash apps which are very hard if impossible to get your money back. Another method is by PayPal but sending as a friends and family payment.

A F&F payment does not require the receiver to have an authorized account and is basically digital cash. Once it's gone, it's gone. Also, tickets CAN and WILL be sent through a legitimate Ticketmaster  account to yours. The tickets will have absolutely no way to tell if they're fake. You will find out the tickets are 'invalid' or 'falsely obtained' once Ticketmaster emails you stating they have inactivated the tickets. Be wary of anyone selling tickets without a Charlotte area code in a phone number, and someone who will not haggle when your offer is lower than listed and just accept your first offer.

With the influx of cash transferring apps and the kinds of things I am seeing, that I have never seen before in the market, I am just giving a heads up. Just a few tips, it has never been a problem for me and it appears it is starting to get very real with scammers.

Whether I'm buying or selling, I always meet in person, in a public place, and deal in cash.  If there's a lot of money involved I bring someone with me.

Agreed this is smart, however the seller has to have hard tickets, otherwise - no beuno, and tickets are more and more becoming electronic just like payment options. But yes, hard copies are always nice and pain free.

I have never come across the complexity scammers are at now days. They can literally get valid tickets to you on a legit Ticketmaster account and then 2 hours later, boom, they're inactive.

PayPal service and goods will get your money back however it also costs a 10% charge or whatever so as of now I try to go that route. I also try to get them to send first then verify via ticketmaster, THEN send payment, which isn't easy.

I have PSLs, so they're always hard tickets.

And still not guaranteed to be good tickets. I could tear the tickets from the books to give you hard copies, then get online before you get to the gate and choose to print the tickets and - bingo! - your hard copies are no good. Better to buy from a reputable source.

Indeed. Besides just paying the price it appears some sort of trust, risk and willingness to get screwed is going to be involved.

I am not wealthy, and going to a game is amazing seats will only happen if I can find a deal and it takes a bit of time and effort but has been well worth it so far but it's becoming harder and harder.

That's how I did it for this game which cost me close to $1K for tix. Had the lady sign a receipt with all her info (address, phone #, etc.) and ask that she bring me a copy of her driver's license. She even gave me her business card that showed that she was a VP at BOA with her work info which I verified. I felt good about this transaction but no guarantees and Craigslist is always a crap shoot as is buying off the street.

If you need to buy off the street, make sure they are willing to walk up to the gate with you and you get in.

Let me get her name. I need to notify BoA who is selling their tickets to Eagles trash.

No worries, I respect you and your operation enough to keep my Eagle trash friends away from your tailgate tonight. I wouldn't want them there either.

Enjoy the game!

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off
    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48344034/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association   Honestly fug these refs and their union. Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
